Congratulations🎈 What is his major? Yes, don’t withdraw yet and just wait until you have all the decisions out!

Congratulations to your son.

I agree. Don’t withdraw anything. He may want to avoid the sting of a waitlist or rejection, but it is better to wait until all decisions come in before committing.

My son is physics.

Thank you, I don’t know the exact major- something like molecular biology or biotech. Eventually Phd or med school bound

Dornsife? That is my son’s college if he chooses to go to USC. He also is super interested in theater, back stage, writing, and directing. He’s hoping to be able to fit all that in with the physics, but probably extracurricularly or as a minor. I think he is considering law school or a PhD in physics.

I guess the USC RD decision is still April 1?

It will be before April 1st, likely March 22nd.

Love that they rolled out scholarship results so much earlier this year. Years and years ago, they came out 2 weeks before regular, but over last several years they were so late that it was annoying - frankly, it seemed a bit arrogant of them making their perceived “best” wait so long for results.

So I’d pencil in 22nd, but they should put out a post soon on their admission social media pages with the date.

Especially for the portfolio kids who submitted applications per the early deadline! It is so annoying to have to wait for so long.

Has anyone received scholarship information for national merit scholars yet?

If not admitted early, National Merit Finalists will find out their admission results regular decision. If you have not designated USC as your first choice with NMSC, you will not see the Presidential Scholarship on your portal. Once you notify NMSC that USC is your first choice, it can take a couple of weeks for the scholarship to show on your FAST page. The deadline to notify NMSC is May 31.

He was accepted early and when he submitted he put down USC as 1st choice. He has not heard anything. He was accepted into the WBB program. I wonder if that is why.

When will National Merit notify the University of my first choice selection?

Beginning in March, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation sends the Financial Aid Office a roster of all finalists who have selected USC as their first choice school. This roster is updated every two weeks.

If you have been admitted to USC and designate USC as your first choice school, please allow two weeks for your scholarship to be reflected in your financial aid summary.

Was he asked to interview for a merit award at USC? If so, did he receive those results?

Honestly, I think if he already knows he wants to go to USC he should withdraw from other schools. He is highly qualified and if he already knows he won’t go to these schools, he’s giving other students who might really want to go to those schools a better chance at getting in.

Only withdraw from a school when you know 1000% your student would not attend no matter what. Things can happen between now and May 1st. Life happens. The way schools plan and process attendees, withdrawing now won’t make a difference. Those spots are really his till May 1st, then only the one he chooses is. If you want to do it to unclutter your life that’s one thing, but schools admit way more than they need, they expect and process the fallout - after May 1st.

Every school admits more students than they expect to enroll. Withdrawing your application early will not open a space for someone else who would not have otherwise been admitted.

He was not.

Then he should see the Presidential Scholarship show up in his FAST portal within the week.
