USC Class of 2030 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

Daughter admitted, previously deferred from EA. Spring semester admit.

My son was denied for business after being deferred from ED. USC was a reach for him, but we had hoped the new ED option might tilt the scale a bit. In reality, based on what we’ve gathered anecdotally, ED didn’t seem to add any extra consideration – only a few exceptionally strong students accepted and everyone else deferred. It’s ok, he’s happy with his other options. Congrats to everyone accepted!

USC RD Class of 2030 Results Survey:

This form is for tracking decision results, so it’s all centralized for future students. If you could fill this out once you get your decision, that would be very appreciated!

You can see all other people’s individual responses in the links above, along with overall form statistics (such as what percent got accepted).

Younger son accepted for fall. Deferred from EA. Today is the big day..

D26 applied in a portfolio major so was considered for merit in the Dec 1-March 25 timeframe. She received the Presidential award tonight!

Congratulations; is the presidential award still $20K like last year or is it back to 50%

Thanks

It’s 50% tuition.

For future reference, posting here on my son:

Decision: Declined

Intended major: Physics

UC UW/ CappedW/ Fully W GPA: 3.75 / 4.08 / 4.17
Number of a-g courses taken 9-12th: 22
Number of UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE classes: 7 AP, 1 DE

Location: SF Bay area

First Gen?: No

Accepted: UC Davis, UCSC, Cal Poly SLO, Santa Clara, Chapman, UC Riverside, Cal Poly Pomona, SJSU, SFSU

Waitlisted: UC Berkeley, Occidental, UCI

Declined: Harvey Mudd, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, USC

This can be a confusing question because for years, the National Merit Scholarship was also considered a Presidential Scholarship (and included in the stats of how many Presidential Scholarship were given) because it was 50%, but last year they reduced the NMF to 20k per year. So the Presidential is 50%, but the NMF at 20k would not fall into the category of Presidential any longer.

Yes, understood. D26 received the Presidential Scholarship with expectations to serve as a kind of student ambassador noted in the letter. Do you have any resources on what that entails? Also, the honors housing looks amazing. I’m sure more information will come, but we are eager to learn about this amazing opportunity.

Congrats that’s so great! Yes, McCarthy is solid. It’s more the closed door situation which some love, others love the ol’ school dorm style with open doors. All a personal preference. Most important, is the student decides then it’s not the parents fault when they are unhappy, ha. Check out the floorplans. The loft there is teeny tiny. Basically, you get what you pay for, the more the $, the nicer the room!

In terms of the ambassador expectations noted in the letter - some departments tie ambassadors (tour guides, face of a program to represent in different events) as part of the scholarship. I honestly don’t know if participation is voluntary or mandatory when tied to a scholarship. But I wouldn’t hesitate to have your D call the school she was accepted to and ask (or you could call, she’s accepted so all good). They won’t take anything away! Funny how scary it can be to ask the school questions, but they are there to help you, especially once accepted, and even more when you have a scholarship. Fight on! :victory_hand:
