how long has it been since you received your admission letter?
i remember reading somewhere that you’d only be able to commit online after 7 business days has passed after you have been admitted
i tried entering the site but since i have already submitted my deposit, it no longer lets me in…
try back in a few days

did anyone get in as a spring admit for business?

Jap_626 - Usually, Marshall admits nobody for Spring because there are a

bunch of applicants who want to change their major to Business or

Accounting after a semester. I saw this information in this thread

somewhere.

How do you go about doing that?

anyone know the average GPA for an architect major at USC to transfer? and does UCLA have an undergrad program?

Don’t know about average GPA, but I hear the architect school is very competitive.

talk to a marshall/leventhal advisor and they’d show you how

I got a C in english 101 will that hurt my chances next year?

hey guys quick question about USC transfer

legacy: dad and his brother [ not sure if this really matters ] i had a about a d average in high school…

My son got into Marshall with a 3.58 GPA. He wasn’t accepted last year with a 3.49 GPA. Are applying as a sophomore or a junior?

Your D average is high school should not be an issue, since they will look only at your college grades if you have more than 30 credits.

Legacy can’t hurt.

Hey guys, I have a few questions for Marshall.

Is there any extra points given to applicants who already have the optional accounting courses completed? Or is the only upside that you don’t have to take the courses at USC?

Do I need to have 60 units by application time to be considered a junior applicant, or can I have 60 units by the spring before I transfer?

What is the breakdown of how the admissions committee views applicants? For example, Haas factors in 50% on grades and course work, 35% on essays, and 15% on resume. I know you probably can’t provide specific numbers, but how much emphasis do they place on both the essay and resume? Is one more important than the other?

Does your GPA start over if you are coming from a community college, or is your overall graduation GPA combined from USC and community college courses that transferred over?

Thanks in advance.

I personally think it makes a bit of a difference. Especially if you’re borderline. If you can, you should definitely take it especially since it’s probably gonna be harder at USC than at a community college.

You need to have at least 60 units by the time you start your first semester at USC so my guess is by the spring.

I have no clue haha.

Im pretty sure your GPA starts over. But i think if you apply for grad school i think they look at your comm. college GPA as well…

I do not believe there are extra points other than it is another pre-req completed.

By the end of spring before you transfer, although there is not differentiation on the application.

No clue, but just an informal asking around at orientation it seemed as though grades were much more focused on than anything else, at least for Marshall.

Starts over, I know this one for sure. If you are eligible for honors when you graduate I believe they use your USC GPA if it is lower than your previous school, and combine the two if the USC gpa is higher.

What is the minimum GPA to graduate magna cum laude? And I’ve already been told that Marshall is very generous with financial aid, but I’d like to hear if this is true from other people as well. Thanks for your answers.

As to question 3.

I was told by my admissions counselor that the process is holistic and there is no way to pinpoint one area of your application that would be targeted more than another. That being said, I would guess that a significant portion of the decision is based on your GPA.

Jk_91: “What is the minimum GPA to graduate magna cum laude? And I’ve already been told that Marshall is very generous with financial aid, but I’d like to hear if this is true from other people as well. Thanks for your answers.”

From the USC Catalog:

Graduation with University Honors
To be eligible for undergraduate honors at graduation, a minimum overall grade point average of 3.5 for cum laude, 3.7 for magna cum laude and 3.9 for summa cum laude is required. Students must meet these averages, both on residence work attempted and on combined transferred and residence work attempted. The honors award is then determined by either the GPA for the residence work or the GPA for the combined transferred and residence work, whichever is lower. The university will not deviate from policies governing the calculation of the grade point averages required for graduation with honors through inclusion or exclusion of course work. University honors are noted on academic transcripts and the diploma.

So let me see if I have this straight. If my USC GPA is lower than my combined USC and CC GPA, then the latter will be used to qualify for an honors award?

Thanks for your help!
