jk_91: They use whatever GPA is lower to determine university graduation honors.

I see, thanks for clearing that up. I wonder why they use the lower one, though?

I have another question and it’s about the foreign language requirement for Marshall. The articulation agreement for USC says that many majors require a third semester of foreign language, while some even require four. Does Marshall have any foreign language requirement at all? Currently, I’m only planning on taking one semester of a foreign language in CC.

Yes, Marshall has a foreign language requirement.

According to [Welcome to the USC Orientation Programs Website](http://sait.usc.edu/orientation/testing/foreign.shtml)

The following majors have a foreign language requirement:

* Accounting
- Business
- Cinematic Arts (B.A. only)
- College of Letters, Arts and Sciences (all majors)
- Communication
- Engineering (Computer Science only)
- Fine Arts (B.A. only)
- Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
- Journalism (Broadcast and Print)
- Music (B.M. in String Instrument and Vocal Arts Performance; B.A. in Music)
- Occupational Therapy
- Public Relations
- Theatre (B.A. only)

So it says that you need the equivalent of a third semester at USC. What if you can’t fulfill all three semesters? Does this hurt a junior applicant really bad?

All I can tell you is that I don’t have a foreign language class and I’m in Marshall… so I don’t know how much that affects your admission.

Also, weren’t you the one trying to decide between USC and UCs? UCs do have a language requirement for their IGETC regardless of your major

So you didn’t take any foreign language classes in college and still got accepted? Were you a sophomore or junior applicant? The link you showed me says that you have to take some sort of language placement test, so doesn’t that mean you’ll likely have to take the foreign language classes at USC?

I’m actually going to be applying to both USC and the UCs. The foreign language requirement for IGETC I already have taken care of because of my two years from high school.

Marshall does’nt have a language requirement. I asked about Marshall when I was there as I’m undecided and the orientation advisor I had, who used to be a business major said Marshall didn’t, which she found weird as it had a vry large international emphasis. If you do the east asia major in the business school is the only one that has it.

Thanks! Yeah, I do remember someone telling me this a while ago, but would I still have to take the foreign language placement test once I’m admitted? I don’t understand why this link: [Welcome to the USC Orientation Programs Website](http://sait.usc.edu/orientation/testing/foreign.shtml) says that business has a foreign language requirement.

awwww it’s cute to look at this thread and look back at the complete ridiculousness of admissions season and knowing that we all SURVIVED this crazy time, whether for USC or for other equally as awesome schools. best of luck to everyone who was apart of this crazy year at their schools…and for the trojans, fight on and see you in a few weeks during welcome week! :)

jk_91: “Thanks! Yeah, I do remember someone telling me this a while ago, but would I still have to take the foreign language placement test once I’m admitted?
No. The only requirements are those listed here: [USC Catalogue: The Schools: USC Marshall School of Business: Undergraduate Degrees](http://www.usc.edu/dept/publications/cat2008/schools/business/undergraduate.html#bachelor)

Notice that language is listed as an elective, not a requirement.

I do find it a bit odd that a major that would likely be linked internationally doesn’t even have a foreign language requirement. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up.

edit: I plan to apply next year, but when is the earliest I can start writing my essay? Do the essay topics stay the same every year?

jk_91: “I plan to apply next year, but when is the earliest I can start writing my essay? Do the essay topics stay the same every year?”

The essay topics were the same for at least the past two years

Cool, thanks.

Wow, what a long topic I have ever seen in 2 years from CCC!!!

Good job, everyone! lol :D

Ok you know what, after seeing all the 3.9s and 8s 7s etc. I’m wondering if I have chance with a 2.8 with 60 credits… I’m dead serious what must I do to up my chances? besides obviously increasing my grade. Argh… frustration

ChrisEW22, at this point I would suggest that you apply and try to write an amazing personal statement. I strongly recommend that you look into other schools because your chances of getting into SC is slim to none even with letters of rec and a great essay. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but a B- average is not good enough for a school like SC. GOOD LUCK!

Does USC look at A’s, A-'s, and A+'s?

Or is it just A, B, C?

How will a W in calculus affect a sophomore marshall transfer? I am going to be taking Business Calculus in the spring, and I wanted to know if this will lower my chances as a transfer…

Does transferring from another 4 year uni have a major effect? Would a GPA slightly below 3.7 put me at a disadvantage, or could that be recovered by the fact that the classes I’m taking are a bit harder than what it would be like at a CC? I don’t think I’ll fall below 3.75, but my econ grade is a variable…

My classes aren’t science or math heavy, but they’re diverse, fit the GE reqs, and they’re not blowoffs by any means. I’m taking a physics class next semester so I should be done with all the GE reqs except the “importance of science” and “social issues one.”

u guys any idea if the letter of intent needs to be submitted by jan 10 2009 as well for usc annenberg? And do the teacher recs need to be submitted too by that date? :S
