@jieunh thanks for the reply! if you don’t mind me asking, what two categories do you have left to complete (at USC)?
@user98 Life Science + Physical Science. I don’t think my Human Nutrition counts for any of that.
@user98 We appreciate your questions, but please direct any questions and concerns on the transfer thread

[] Other schools applied to: USC or bust! For future prospective applicants, a word of advice. Do not do what I did! Apply to other schools and have a good backup plan because USC is quite selective.
[li] Comments: I worked hard for three years at my university. In the midst of my education, I thought about this dream I always had about attending USC. I looked into what I had to do to get in. To my surprise I was VERY close and had good stats. Subsequently, I took a leave of absence because I had reached the maximum amount of transferrable units. I enrolled at PCC to finish Math 118 and aced it. Through this I worked hard at my internship and overnight job and it all payed off! Good luck to you all![/li]

Hi sorry this won’t be the most articulate message but want to post before I fall asleep…
Decision: Accepted May 3rd (letter dated May 2nd) Fall 2017 Price real estate development major.
So I officially found out by mail and my portal has not updated and I have not received an email… but I had somewhat of an idea that I got in when my financial aid changed from noncustodial waiver pending with red triangle to being yellow triangle my financial aid is in review and summary available within 3-5 days. My mom wasn’t replying to my numerous texts to check the mail, she’s bad at electronics. So while at school today I called financial aid to see what this means and they said they couldn’t tell me anything and to keep my fingers crossed. When I got home I had no idea and my mom tells me oh you got into USC… and I had a mini heart attack. It was my first choice and the only university I’ve ever applied to! And I live 15-20 minutes away!
Stats: Junior at Santa Monica college.
Around 55 semester units complete, 16 semester units in progress. 20 years old. Female. White. Not on TPP. First generation.
4.0 GPA.
6 GE done, 1 in progress now (I know you still have to take 2 at USC but I really like my classes!)
RRD major has 2 prerequisites at SMC (econ 1 and math 26- precalc for business majors) I’m in math 26 now and already did econ 1. I was really worried and I thought I would 100% get spring grade request because my fall of highschool junior year algebra 2 along with many classes ended up being Fs when I discontinued attending HS. A minimum of highschool Algebra 2 is an admission requirement for USC, so considering I was taking an admission requirement and prerequisite now I thought I would get SGR.
Letters of Rec: one from my french 3 teacher and one from my business elective teacher who has taught at USC law. I couldn’t read them but they were very personal letters.
Essays: I know you can’t really judge your own essays but I think they are the best essays I’ve ever written.
I just grew up with my mom and brother, and when I was in highschool there was a lot of financial/health family problems and I dropped out my junior year. I used all the money I had saved to obtain my passport and visit over 20 countries from Buenos Aires (my favorite city) to Vietnam, to a month in Paris and everywhere in between on a grand exploration!
I had mostly As in honors and AP classes in high school, and 4s 5s on AP tests, but due to stressful circumstances, I just decided I needed to leave highschool, get my GED and that community college would be the best route for me after my “pre gap” year away.
Hobbies/EC:
I work part time at a start up stock brokerage/ investment company.
I love learning foreign languages, traveling and this year I took french 3 and now I’m in Spanish 2 for fun.
I trade options (selling cash secured puts/covered calls) and equities, since I turned 18. (I’m 20)
Btw I plan on joining USC ski club, french and Spanish club!!! And hopefully taking a surf class!
Sorry if this was too long but I wanted to be detailed! Try checking financial aid submit documents page, mine changed to basically “financial aid in review summary being prepared”

@tayloralext @josh2633 Hello ! Just wanted to ask about the change in your portal because I had my aid change from the pending to the red triangle then now it says the 3-5 business days ( this happened the past day). I just wanted to ask how long did it take after you portal said the 3-5 business days did you receive a decision. Also if anyone else !! aid changed to the review with the 3-5 business days did you find out soon after? I truly apologize for asking a non stats related question, this is my only comment on here for this. Thank you very much !
So then it is true that we have to take a placement test for Marshall?

@angeleno13 Hi during the day at school I checked youusc and my financial aid updated to that same 3-5 day message, nothing else updated online. At night I got home from school and my mom had the package in her hand and told me! My financial aid still shows 3-5 days even though its been like 3 business days, and I even called financial aid because its driving me insane to wait for and I should find out my aid package by Wednesday at the latest. My letter is dated May 2nd, I received it May 3rd and I live in LA.
Does anyone here have any idea when and where I can enroll in classes? Half the classes I need are already full, and I’ve talked to friends at USC about it who say its a common problem… I thought the whole point of a private school was the classes don’t fill up… but most of the classes I need are full or almost full. My major “foundations” classes like intro to accounting or intro to bus. finance have around 50 students give or take, and my specific major classes for real estate at Price have around 20-30 students and are less full.
There’s only a couple options for orientation with the earliest being July 14th… and the latest August 11th… I can only make it to the Aug. 11 option if that as I’ll be in Europe all summer… I can’t really imagine waiting until August if my classes are close to full now and I keep reading that you pick classes at orientation so I am super confused.
I’m so excited about USC its my dream school, so I hope students drop or they add more class options…
Also this may not be the best forum, but I’m not sure where to post this.

[] ECs listed on app: None
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked at a few crappy places for a short period of time (nothing notable), worked as a pizza delivery driver at the time of application and listed it, but ended up quitting because my car was taking a beating and I couldn’t afford to not have a car for school.
[] Essays (subject and responses): Talked about how I’ve ended up in this position in my personal essay, talked about my deep interest in sports/football and that I’d like to write for a blog or paper of some sort at USC (about sports), and in the academic interests essay I just talked about why I specifically think Marshall is a good fit, mentioning how Marshall has a program that produces very well rounded individuals as opposed to other schools with more specific programs. My essays weren’t anything special; no crazy life experiences, didn’t talk about all the clubs that I want to join and things that I want to do at USC, but they were well written. I think there’s only so much I could talk about in my essays anyways, since I’ve never been to USC before so figuring out what I want to do is something that will happen when I get on campus.
[] Letters of Recommendation: One letter of recommendation from a counselor that helped me/witnessed the effort I was putting in at this same time last year when I was a senior in High School. I actually dug up some of the web pages and information, stuff that her and the other counselors at my CC were unable to find, so I think she probably spoke on behalf of the personal/motivated side of me. My other letter of recommendation was from my Calculus professor, and since it was a lecture, we really hardly ever talked. However, I was nearly going to get a B at the end of the semester but finished with an A by getting a 99% on the last test, and blowing the final out of the water. He was visibly impressed with how I sort of made a comeback at the end and pulled out the A, and he mentioned that to me, so he probably spoke about the student side of me.

[*] Comments: I’m shocked that I’ve been accepted with only 16 completed credits; thought it might be possible since I completed Calculus in the fall along with the first writing course and a handful of GEs, but obviously anything can happen with this school! I’m just extremely happy that I have time to set up housing now (if we even have any) and that I’m not in a huge time crunch. Hope to see some of you loyal CCers and fellow Trojans on campus, Fight On!

Decision Date & Time: Dated: 5/4/2017, Received: 5/7/2017 on portal
Stats:
College transferring from: Out of state community college in PA
GPA: 3.756. My advisor had me take a math class that doesn’t transfer as college credit, so my transferrable GPA is probably about a 3.9
Units completed: 48
Units in progress: 13
Pre-reqs completed: 1 out of 2
GEs completed: almost all of them
ECs listed on app: internship, volunteer work, honors society, co-founder of a college club, semi- finalist for a national scholarship, I take music class outside of school, and I have multiple jobs
Job/Work Experience: I’ve had multiple part time jobs.
Essays (subject and responses): I spent a lot of the time on the essays, as I wanted the outcome I now have On the transfer essay, I used a psychological theory and integrated it into why I want to transfer. On the essay regarding being exposed to new ideas, I used an experience I had went through when I was in Europe over the summer. On the third essay, I talked about the many clubs I would join while at USC and why it would help me for my major and for my future.
Letters of Recommendation: One letter of recommendation from my english professor who taught me for both english 1 ad english 2. My other recommender was my college registrar, we do not have a dean at my school.
Other schools applied to: Pepperdine and Tulane (accepted to both)
Comments: I have been in contact with my admissions counselor since August, and we have about 30 emails back and forth. I believe that by my counselor getting to know me, it definitely helped me in the process. I was a semifinalist, out of 2,800, for a national scholarship for community college students. The foundation for the scholarship advised that we let our prospective schools know, as this is a big achievement, so I informed my admissions counselor of that as well. I went to community college with the goal to get into USC and I can’t really process that I have been accepted!!! Still waiting on my financial package.
