[] ECs listed on app: Most were from high school. Varsity Track & Field all throughout high school, multiple editorial positions for high school newspaper, public relations officer for community service club (high school), seasonal Human Resources department intern (high school), part-time job (high school), Cross Country (high school), community service in general (high school), 1 part-time job (college), English tutoring (college)
[] Job/Work Experience: Honestly not much. I did a very short internship with the Human Resources Department at a Socal company my junior year of high school. I worked as a cashier for a year in high school and worked as a sales associate for a beauty/skincare store while attending CC.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I did my entire application the day it was due (Feb 1st), and I didn’t think my essays sounded that great. I reread them back in March and found them alright. My common app personal essay was about how I struggled with trying to pay for a private school as a freshman and dealing with depression and how those two factors led to my decision to stay at a community college. I then discussed how CC allowed me to discover different career pathways/majors and what I did throughout my two years to pursue my new interests. In the prompt essay (something outside of academic focus one), I wrote about how I hope to re spark my interests in computer science because I had gotten into that and graphic designing years ago. I wrote about how my ‘PR experience’ in high school clubs is why I’m primarily interested in marketing and what activities on campus I hope to enter.
[] Letters of Recommendation: None. I would have gotten one from my counselor who I have worked a lot with and know would have written me a great letter, but I did my application really late and didn’t want to put him under any pressure.

[li] Comments/Tips: Don’t be like me and wait until the day the application is due to start it (although I’m sure 99% of applicants are not dumb enough to do that). Go beyond the minimum recommended courses. If you’re a Marshall applicant, try to complete as many business courses as possible, while supplementing those with your GEs and other relatable classes. I had a lot of Communication Studies courses (all the ones required for transfer to UCLA’s Comm program) and Business courses, and I explained in my essays why I had both - because I hope to enter marketing, which incorporates both. Explain any Ws in the additional comments as well. It won’t hurt, no matter what the reason is (my W for Financial accounting in the summer was because I had too many work hours and realized I couldn’t handle both).[/li]
Now comes the hard part…choosing between UCLA and USC. Congrats to all you admits and good luck to those looking into applying! Feel free me to message me if you have any questions!
