[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: none
[] Job/Work Experience: I currently work as a Barber. I’m also in an EMT program currently to get certified.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I basically talked about how I have done all I could at my CC and it was time for me to move on. I also talked about different clubs and classes I was interested in taking at USC
[] Letters of Recommendation: Only had one from my psychology professor.
[/ul]Other:
[list]
[] Other schools applied to: UCLA (denied) UCSB,UCI (ACCEPTED)
[*] Comments: I still can’t believe I got accepted. Just goes to show that even if you have a lower GPA you still have a chance in getting in. Now I am only waiting for financial aid!
College transferring from: California CC.
Trojan Transfer Plan(TTP): No
Entering as: Incoming Junior
GPA: 3.9
Units completed: 65
Units in progress: 12
Classes in Spring: Two extra English classes, Macro and Micro Economics.
Pre-reqs completed: All pre-requisites completed, and then some.
GEs completed: All.
Job/Work Experience: Employed by USC.
Essays (subject and responses): My essay ranged from the cliché of overcoming adversity and unfortunate circumstances to get to where I am to my love and appreciation for the written word.
Letters of Recommendation: None faceslap.
Other schools applied to: UCLA & Northridge with the same majors. I was accepted into both.
Comments: I was fortunate enough to get accepted with a workplace scholarship wherein, because USC is my employer, my tuition in its entirety is waived! What I believe tipped the schale to my favor is the fact that I had taken practically every English class my previous colleges had to offer, and I am proud to say I never received anything less than an A in all of them. I have finished over 65 units throughout the coarse of my two years in a California CC, and I am now happy to say that they have indeed paid off.
Tips for CC transfer Applicants: Finish all the prereqs for your English major and continue to take English classes that, while not required for your transfer, nevertheless aim to show the university that you will be ready and able to tackle the university level classes you will eventually have to take.
Good luck to those who are still awaiting a response!

Letters of Recommendation: 3 from professors
Other:
Other schools applied to: Loyola Marymount (Accepted), Chapman (Application withdrawn)
Comments: Be in-depth with explaining any academic foibles you might have had. Attend info sessions if you are able to and keep in touch with your admission counselor! Also, a reasonable amount of W’s won’t end your chances completely (I had 3) as long as you explain why you had them. Also, also, if you’re writing about the school you want to attend within USC or the program, try not to misspell the name of the program. It may seem small, but I think it is something to look out for. Do your research!

[] ECs listed on app: Amateur Photography, Familial Responsibilities, Foreign Language Competitions (HS)
[] Job/Work Experience: Tutoring off and on through school.
[] Legacy: Nope. First-gen college student.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I mainly talked about photography and my passion for learning foreign languages, and related them to the pursuit of my major. I also wrote about personal growth and discovery in spite of some ongoing unfortunate circumstances. I spent more time on the Viterbi supplement, especially the one that basically asks what you plan to do at USC to advance your academic career once at USC. I don’t think my essay responses were horrible but I don’t think they were great either. 7/10 maybe? Idk
[] Letters of Recommendation: None. I attempted to get one, but I was ulitimately unsuccessful. I was so worried about this.

[] Other schools applied to: UCLA and Cal Poly SLO - waitlisted at both. Still no answer. USC was/is really my last chance as of right now.
[] Comments: I still can’t believe they took a chance on me. Someone pinch me. I’ve fought so hard for so long, and I can’t afford to blow this opportunity. It would have been nice to have options, but since I don’t I’m gonna try to make this work. Good luck everyone.

Comments:
To those who are reading these decisions and stats themselves that have not created a College Confidential account, you’re probably a USC applicant yourself. Don’t lose hope! You WILL hear something back before June 1st.
To those who are looking back at this thread in 2018 or 2019 to see where they stand in terms of chances, my best advice would be to stay true to yourself when you’re writing those essays! My GPA wasn’t the best, heck I only had half the GE’s completed. The essays play an important role, and don’t take them lightly!

Entering as: Sophomore
GPA: 4.00
Units completed: 45
Units in progress: 18

Had essays reviewed by 2 friends who transferred last year and one who got in as a freshman with the Mork scholarship (full ride).

Comments:
I dont know what to say, except I guess they just didnt see me as a good fit for USC.
College: A CC in Florida
Transferring as: Sophomore
High-school GPA: roughly 3.5 (8.7/10). It was a high school in a foreign country whose language I didn’t speak. Bad first year as you can imagine.
College GPA: 4.0
Major(s): Engineering, Astronomy, Applied Physics
Units completed: 41 (Fall + Spring + Summer), USC only saw 30 of those credits I believe.
Will you be getting an AA? No.
First generation college student: Yes, the lovely trio in fact: immigrant/low income/first generation. I’ve always enjoyed starting news games on Hard mode <3
Ethnicity/Gender: Hispanic Male
Letters of Rec: 2 (One generic, other excellent)
EC’s:
Physics Club president, responsible for organizing out reach events.
Phi Theta Kappa cannon-fodder

Multiple volunteering events hosted by campus
Employment at the college’s computer lab
Mathematics Tutor
Full time language instructor from about 15 until 19 years of age.

Comments:Ehhh, after the 6th rejection, I wasn’t entirely surprised with this one. I might need more A’s in more classes. Long gone are the days where a decent GPA had any particular bearing on decisions Though, if that happens to be the case, I should be in better hands next admission cycle.
