USC or UC's? (Confused with the UC's)

I’m in my 2nd semester of community college. Orginally, my plan was exclusively to transfer to USC and USC only.

I realize that is not the wisest choice putting all my eggs in one basket so i have decided to look into the UC’s as my back-up choices. Or, PLAN C as my Cerritos College calls it.

All of the classes i took this past fall 06 and current spring 07 are transferable to USC and each fill in a piece of the requirements to transfer.

By the way, this is for me to transfer as a junior fall 08 to USC or one of the UC’s.

Assuming everything goes well and be realistic, i have calculated that my GPA at the end of Sping 08 will be approx. “3.6”

With USC, it is between 3.5 - 3.7 therefore will be considered a competitive GPA although USC has now lowered the acceptance transfer percentage rate.

What about the UC’s? I have no clue about them. i’ve only been focused on USC. My counselor i spoke with today said UC’s get a majority of their student between 3.0-3.7

So therefore i’m good with the UC’s?

Also…for USC my intended major is CREATIVE WRITING…UC’s dont have that but they do have English. I’m assuming my chances to be accepted at say, UCLA will be higher if i tackle some of the english major classes here at my community college?

One last thing… USC is my #1 choice. With the UC’s, i’m highly looking at UCLA or Berkeley…or even, cough, Irvine. But…cough.
