USC SCA 2020-2021 Transfers Thread

@anotherbun @hermit1214 @Dudu123456 @saderobinsonacts @Bellevue34

So any day now. I’m literally on the edge of my seat, just dying to hear back but also dreading it. Did any of you get any admissions offers from other schools?

I was accepted to Emerson College for Media Arts Production major with a track in writing for film and television.

I was waitlisted at Chapman University for Television Writing & Production major. But I just don’t think my application was as strong as it could’ve been. They also didn’t ask for script samples. And my creative supplement, writing a television episode about my family, didn’t put me in the light I was hoping for.

I received a notice from Loyola Marymount University that the Screenwriting major was very competitive this year, but that I still showed promise and they were offering to reconsider me for a different major. I was thinking about sending them a sample of my TV pilot script since they didn’t take writing samples for the application and urging them to reconsider their decision. They also accepted my fiancée already and I would try to reason with them about that as well.

I’m waiting on USC, my top choice because ultimately that’s where I want to be. I’m just hoping that someone from the admissions committee heard me, like really truly heard me, and saw my potential and lobbied for me. I desperately want to be in Southern California. I feel it in the deepest part of my soul that I belong there. But I know that a 3.21 GPA is rough even with an upward trend. It is what it is though and I’m just hoping something in LA works out.

I really like Emerson and they are the #10 Film school and literally a writers college. They are super lgbt friendly too and have classes like Writing Queer Television. Sounds awesome but it’s in Boston and they only let you do your final senior semester on their LA campus. Also my fiancée was rejected from Emerson but accepted to LMU and we’re too old and serious for that “go to separate colleges” route, especially one’s on opposite sides country.

So I’m just going hoping for the best at this point.

@Sammiezee Congrats on getting accepted! Sorry to hear about your situation though, that’s always rough. :frowning: I was afraid I’d end up in a similar situation with my boyfriend, but he ended up not pursuing his degree since he’s been able to climb up the ranks where he is now.
Have you guys considering possibly appealing for Emerson? I understand if you’d want to hold off since USCs decision hasn’t come out yet…
I didn’t apply to any other schools since I just really didn’t have time; I work full time and during the fall was still taking classes, and I didn’t want to overextend myself and turn in a bunch of weak apps (especially since USC is my dream school as well). The whole reason I ended up in Cali really was to transfer there. It hasn’t been easy and definitely was on no ones blessing but seven years later here we are, lol.
I spoke to quite a few people on campus before submitting my app, and something they assured me about was that a GPA really isn’t a end all be all. My GPA is also low for USC (3.45), and it was a huge concern of mine as well. From what they told me, they obviously want to see talent but they also want to see that your passionate about the school, and from the sound of it you definitely are! I think if your portfolio and essays were strong you have as good a chance as anyone else.
Hopefully we start hearing this week though, it’d be nice to start solidifying plans ?

@Sammiezee I sure hope that GPA is not the make or break point for all this. My GPA for the past two semesters have been great, but my overall college GPA (including the online classes I took while in the military) is right around 3.4-3.5ish

I sure hope that I checked just the right amount of boxes to get accepted.

@Sammiezee Hi! I just got accepted into NYU for Film Production this past Monday. However, I’m awaiting USC SCA’s response, and hopefully they come within this week.

I was accepted into NYU’S dramatic writing program last Tuesday. Still waiting on USC’S response.

Did any of y’all get accepted today?

Nope, unfortunately, no word. @hermit1214

I got accepted for the Interactive Media and Games program! Hopefully there’s some more good news on the way, I’m sure today was just the start!

@hermit1214 hey I haven’t heard back yet either and didn’t see anyone for Screenwriting receive a decision so maybe that’s on the horizon and it’s your second choice major. Who knows!! Remain hopeful friend, I’m also nervous and anxious.

So excited to see more decisions rolls out.

@Dudu123456 and congrats on nyu, still an amazing program!

@anotherbun Congratulations!! I can’t wait for fall to start!

@Sammiezee Hey! Good luck to you too! Hopefully we hear back soon. Did you have an interview? I’m not sure if they had them for first-choice screenwriting majors.

hi~ im also an sca applicant looking to transfer for fall 2020. im transferring from a cc in texas for the media arts + practice major and im kinda nervous because i haven’t seen any other ma+p transfers for sca…? hoping for the best, though im partially worried because I emailed my admin counselor wondering if I should be worried about a lack of interview and she told me no depts were holding them…
