USC SCA CLASS OF 2024 - Fall 2020 Application

We did not apply for financial aid so I don’t know. Wish I could be of more help!

By the way- back when the portals were updating for Merit, did anyone’s “Forms” section disappear and reappear that did not receive merit scholarship?

Our “Forms” section disappeared and then reappeared-but with no merit- so just wondering if anyone else noticed that. It’s hard to tell because you needed to actually be constantly refreshing during that time to see it. I suppose it was just part of a system wide refresh or something and may have happened to all portals and mean nothing.

Thoughts?

@uscscamom i didn’t notice my forms section ever disappearing then reappearing but my forms section is here now. I wonder if it’s different for anyone else.

@uscscamom Mine never disappeared and it is still present today. I haven’t heard of that occurring for applicants either, this year and other years. It may just have been the website refreezing itself with the merit updates or a glitch. I wouldn’t be surprised if the portals are a bit janky this year with workers at home.

tomorrow everyone…

I want to cry . Let’s all virtually hold hands

I have an idea. Let’s all watch the SCA USC video they play at open houses and tours so we can get filled with hope and cry ?:heart:

^^^ Here you go. I’m not sure if this is it or not. But it’s a good one…

That’s a great one @WWWard! I hope everyone on this thread and those following along without posting are all in the same class together! Good Luck to ALL!!!

What was everyone’s film submissions about?

Good morning all- today is the day!

This has been such a long time coming. With USC SCA being his dream reach- my s has been prepping for this day since early July. My sister had come to visit with her 2 middle school girls and 5 year old triplets and the house was totally crazy. To escape the chaos, he went to our little local library for 3 hours a day m-f to work on his application essays. He continued to use the library daily even after they left because it felt so purposeful. In addition to his essays, throughout the summer he wrote 3-4 writing samples using different prompts and by the time Dec 1 came around, he had filmed not one, but two 5 min movie options to choose from for his media submission.

Last night I asked my s if he wanted me to wake him when the results came out(because he’s sleeping till noon these days with no school!)His response made me a little sad- he said he was excited to see the results but also was dreading it. “Because I don’t want you to be disappointed if I don’t get in”

I told him there was absolutely NO chance that I’d be disappointed in him if he didn’t get in- because he worked hard, tried his best- and that in itself makes me exceedingly proud of him.

Many who have applied will not get in today- but for most, it will not be for a lack of trying. It just means that it simply wasn’t in the cards this time around.

After today, it’s time to pivot. Whether you get in or not- it’s time to buckle back into your senior seat and go out of HS with a bang!

Then, this fall, if your at USC SCA- great! But, if you end up at another college- do your very best there too and see where it takes you! What’s that saying? When one door closes another one opens? You never know where life will lead you!!:)))

Good luck to all- and a special shout out to @CADREAMIN and @WWWard for all of the encouragement and insight!!!

@uscscamom Well said. You’re welcome.

Unfortunately, disappointment does come along in life. It’s what you do next that matters most. Steven Spielberg desperately wanted to attend USC SCA… so much so that he tried three times to gain admission. He failed to gain admission all three times. But now there is a building bearing his name within the SCA complex, and he did very well despite lacking an SCA education. Bryan Singer also tried and was also not granted admission by either USC or SCA. He tried a second time and got into USC but again failed to get into SCA. He then succeeded as an internal transfer on his third try. Persistence can also pay off.

And let us remember that particularly in the film industry there is so much more that goes into being successful, and working consistently than where you go to school…yes, USC is a great school but it is not the only path to a successful career in film…just ask the graduates of Chapman, UCLA, Cal Arts, UCSD, and that program you’ve never heard of. It’s a big industry…hard work, determination and not quitting are also extremely important. Sometimes on CC the enthusiasm for one school convinces young people that everything rides on this acceptance. In our home state on the other side of the country I watch film students graduate from our in-state film school every year…and move to Hollywood…and work. Often they work alongside graduates of USC/UCLA/Chapman making the same salary, doing the same work. There are many paths…if the doors of USC do not open for you today do not take that as the universe telling you if won’t happen. Good luck!

@cruzanlady So very true…

The people on the main USC page are stressing us out over here…

mine was about two brothers who don’t have the best relationship, have a deep and intense talk and they find themselves closer than ever… that’s a short way to summarize ?? what was everyone else’s about

@cruzanlady It’s definitely lively over there- and I’m following right along :)! Good Luck!
