USC Status Update

Ok looks like not all CLAS applicants get the “Forwarded” status as seen by Hoobucs720 and h00dr1chh. Has everyone with preliminary status already sent in their midyear grades? I have forwarded and haven’t sent in my mid year grades yet because my semester just ended monday and I haven’t even seen my grades yet.

There seems to be a variable missing, which is if the applicant applied by Dec 1st or not.
I’m guessing everyone that’s on the chart applied by Dec 1st? Because if they didn’t apply by Dec 1st, they’re not going to receive the letter.

and cdr777, my prelim status says to send midyear report if you want to, unless asked to, then you must.
So, since i wasn’t asked yet, I’m probably not going to send in the report.

I had the preliminary status yesterday, and still do. I just submitted my grades a few hours ago, so there’s clearly not a connection there.

My grades were good, I’m happy.

Also, based on when people in SoCal got their letters, I think I should have received mine today, and there was nothing. So… we’ll see what that means. I’m going to hold out hope that I’ll be nominated for a scholarship!

ya thementor5 I hope everyone realizes they will not even be receiving this letter if they didn’t apply by Dec 1 and even though my grades were fine this last semester, I’m going to wait and see if I get the letter from USC.

I just hope that NOT getting the no scholarship letter/grade request doesn’t mean you’re in the “definite deny” category (applied by Dec.1), because my S does not have the stats to be in a “definite accept” pile. (After all, the letter does say you are still being considered for “other” scholarships and admission.) It seems in past years this was a theory (yes, I searched obsessively; please don’t tell my S). Someone tell me the theory proved absolutely wrong!

Hi, like alot of you i’m ffreaking out about whether or not USC will accept me. I probally made a terrible decision in only applying to a few out of state schools (i live in indiana) but here are my stats for anyone who can maybe tell me my chances!

SAT - 2260 (combined from 3 diff testing times, i think 2230 was highest single testing time)
National Merit Semi
GPA - not so hot, i think 3.8W not sure UW but i took many many many AP / advanced classes
AP tests - Calc BC 4, AP US History 4, AP Literature 4, AP Euro History 5, AP Psych 5
EC - varsity wrestler, long term work experience, student tutor / National Honors Society, some hours volunteer work

currently, my status is at the “We have completed a preliminary review of your application” part saying they may request my senior grades, and i live in indiana and know no one else who applied to USC, so if anyone in that region got a letter i’m curious since i’ve had no correspondence from USC by mail at all. i also applied back in November, so those of you who already got scholarship letters, how do i compare to you? this waiting time is just killing me since i’ve been accepted to all my in state schools, but USC is where i definately definately want to go

shreddermom, you bet you are certainly scaring people with that theory of yours. I’m sure there are people with good stats that haven’t received the letter yet? anyone?

and @ aznteiryakichef, your stats are fine. If your essays/recs are good, I’d say very good shot.

I haven’t received the letter yet and have the forwarded status but I don’t think I would be in a definite deny pile, my stats are UW avg of about 96-97/100, 31 ACT, 4 Aps thus far 3 5s and 1 4, 4 more APs this year, 2 sport athlete, NHS, AP scholar with honor, various clubs, possible hook- Asian/Jewish

Oh gosh - didn’t mean to scare anyone. But I was also theorizing there could be a likely accept pile that would negate the need for a mid-year grades request. Hopefully that helps! I’ll shut up now.

So I’m confused–is not receiving the “you have no chance for scholarship” letter a good thing or a bad thing? I didn’t receive the letter but was status was recently changed to the preliminary one that said I could submit my grades if I wanted to (they were good so I did). But I think my stats are pretty decent–avg test scores but a 4.98 weighted GPA which just went up, so I feel like not getting the letter isn’t necessarily a bad sign.

anyone care to sum up the consensus for me? thanks!

I don’t know, hopefully not getting the letter is a good sign because I haven’t gotten it yet either. What was your SAT/ACT score Elle4Luck.

We received the fall grades we requested, and require no additional information at this time. We will mail decisions to freshman applicants by April 1st.

^cool! new status. But that still tells you nothing, only that they’ve received your grades!

All students not accepted in the first wave will be asked for grades. Being asked for grades is not a “good” sign or a “bad” sign, it is just the way USC admissions works.

The “no scholarship” letter means that you are not getting a Trustee or Presidential scholarship. Nothing more. It is not a likely letter and it is not a sign that you are on a “pile.” At this point in the admissions process - just 1 week after they finished two months on just the Trustee/Presidential decisions, the assumption you are all making that they have already decided yes or no on 35,000+ applications is just plain silly.

Edit: I feel like that sounds a bit mean, but it isn’t meant to be. I hope you all come back to look at this thread with fresh perspective next September. You may feel a bit silly when you re-read it. My best wishes are with each and every one of you.

^Before it said something like “we have completed an initial review, but would like to see mid year grades” Similar to the preliminary but not the same.

Do you think it is a good sign or a bad sign if I have not received the no scholarship letter?? And does USC offer scholarships for community service as well because I have 800 community service hours?? I have a 2020 SAT and 3.7 UW gpa so I do not intend to receive any academic scholarships.

I have to agree with alamemom. All of you trying to figure out what every change of status means is like trying to read meaning the arrangement of tea leaves in a cup! USC sends out early acceptances in Jan, and Feb to a SMALL percentage of applicants- they are very similar to “likely” letters sent out by some Ivy’s. Most [75%] accepted students don’t get scholarships. There is NO WAY they have made admissions decisions on the rest of the 35,000 applicants at this point. So to preserve your sanity, I strongly suggest those who are obsessing about getting into USC to take deep breathes and try to relax a bit. MOST students will hear back from USC toward the end of March.
