USC Status Update

I applied to Viterbi as Chem E major. I just got “The Letter.” How is Viterbi, anyway?

I am a nm finalist and designated USC as my first choice… my status says:
“We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail.”
I don’t want to obsess over this, but I am curious… anybody know what this could mean??

it means you application folder now has everything needed for the admissions reps to start reading your application. your application is complete. nothing more.

@ GreyMatters: Congratulations on your acceptance to USC and Viterbi School of Engineering. (Sorry if it sounded too formal =)

Let me just say that Viterbi is AWESOME!!! I had second thoughts about doing engineering, but the Freshman Academy (which is like an intro to engineering) course really changed my mind. Viterbi is full of fun filled events every now and then. The thing about Viterbi is that they guide you throughout your four years, making sure you’re ready for the real world. The support is overwhelming, and everyone is there to help you.

Trust me, you won’t regret your decision if you do decide to come to USC, (which I hope you do). Oh, and if you want, PM me for my Facebook…(so i can sound less formal like this)

@AppleWater: I’m not in just yet, “The Letter” is the one that informs most applicants that they didn’t qualify for the Trustee/Presidential scholarship. 'Tis all.

Still waiting for the official acceptance letter to come. Sorry for the confusion. I’ll PM you to ask for more info about Viterbi.

Jeez, what a stupid mistake…I thought you were referring to the acceptance letter, back when I was applying, we called it the “no scholarship letter.”

But high hopes for you!!
Your acceptance should come soon, just don’t think about it too much (unlike me, and it kinda screwed me over -_-)

the letter to which people are/should be referring says that the recipient is not being considered for the President’s or Trustee’s scholarship, but may receive another one, and should expect to hear back in late March/early April about his/her decision.

Greymatters, my son applied to Viterbi. How do you like it? What is your major? How long did you have to wait before you received your acceptance?

I received my letter today, in NC, presidential scholar candidate. Accepted into vertibi.

I meant to ask Applewater about engineering major. How do both Applewater and Greymatter like Viterbi? Challenging? What you expected? Any insight would be helpful? Thanks.

nope oxolojo didn’t receive the letter today, i’m in NY though so if I ever do receive the letter it probably won’t be until friday/saturday/monday.

I’m starting to think these status updates really mean nothing, I googled USC status updates to see if there were any other boards with info and I found this from CC last year <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/675657-still-no-status-update.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/675657-still-no-status-update.html</a> , according to this it seems that the statuses were completely different last year with someone receiving the “review by admission committee” status on March 25, this year we all seemed to have that status at the beginning of the process. Also last year it shows when the status was last updated but this year I don’t think they say what date the status was updated unless I’m just missing it.

@cdr777, I am starting to agree too. Not that I want it to be that way, but it definitely seems so. I like my status just the way it is. And I’ll keep it that way until I have the “acted upon” status. Cause that means I’m done. For better or for worse.

And I just want to KNOW. Even if it means that it’s a no. I just want to end the wait!
