<p>^I don’t think anybody here is going to know the answer to that question. I also doubt that it’s the same number of cellists year to year. The number likely changes. There’s nothing wrong with asking that question of someone at the school of music. Email them and see what they say. I have a music major son, and he found that some music schools would answer this question directly (like, “we don’t have an exact count yet, but we think we might have a need for about 4 more such-and-suches”) and other schools were clearly reluctant to answer and were vague. But there’s no harm in asking.</p>
<p>Btw, have you been to the music major forums? Go to Discussion Home and scroll down the page to special categories. Can’t remember the subheading. But you’ll see Music Majors scattered amongst other things like engineering, theater, dance, etc. They’ll know a lot more about things like your question over there! </p>
