USC transfers.

haha WORD 10 char

ya i got a usc email account. they sent to my original email (the one i had put on my application) that my usc email was now active. they also gave my usc email address and everything and i set up my password. i also got an email to set book my orientation, which i did for december 4-5.

Hey! Goldenjet, Vonska… I really do think they are cruel sadists in that admissions office. They strung me along all year. Yeah, they asked for spring grades. Yeah, they asked for all sorts of financial doc. and stuff. Yeah, they gave me false hope and empty assurances everytime I called. Always contradicting the last call. Never a straight answer! Then I get a “sorry” letter in late August! They tell me I was a fraction of a decimal of a point from an acceptance threshhold. Thanks! I feel sooooooooo much better now… Then USC thought it would be funny to call me up four days before classes started to tell me they are interested in me after all. But PROBABLY it is too late for the fall!! So they keep me going about a spring admit. Now they want me to reapply for next year. NO F’IN WAY!!! I’ve had enough. So you guys watch out for their BS!!! And good luck! Hope you guys share your stats. I’m curious too! Still  Dawg

Wow man thats some serious BS.

how did you find out that you were a fraction of a decimal point off the admissions threshold? Man, thats really ****ed up.

But truth be told, If that had happened to me I’d still be reapplying this year. I know that I was pretty close to getting in before they said no, and you were stopped an inch from the goal line.

I’d reapply if I were you, but then again- I’m not.

no man i got in for spring. clean cut.

sorry to hear bout yr troubling experience though. dont worry everything works out in the end.

I will be applying as an Economics major for next fall…I have about a 3.7 cum gpa. What pre-reqs are absolutely necessary for me to complete in order to get in next year? What I am most worried about is math–I have taken up to Calc I (but not Business Calc). I will not be able to take Calc II in the spring because I am studying abroad and no math is offered. I have already taken Micro and Macro Econ…Can someone please help me out?

just finish 2 semesters of english and yr in the clear.

vonska did you unregister for ucr? if so how?? i got an email a while back saying to respond with ur student id saying ur not going to attend and i should be fine but they haven’t changed my status. apparently they think im going to attend even though i haven’t paid anything nor have i signed up for classes.

Vonska-
Thank you so much for your quick reply! So even as a junior transfer I just need to worry about my 2 semesters of english? I’m sure I’m fine with that because I have completed IGETC…

hobo, i tried (for the hell of it) to register for some classes on growl and got an error message. something like “enrollment is only for current and active students”. so i guess im not a student there ne more. i didnt register for any classes or pay either. but since yours is still working, maybe you should give the office of registrar a call and settle that or something. btw did you book your orientation day? and you got your transfer credit report right, cuz i just got mine like 2 days ago

lex, ya 3.7 is very good just as long as you have 2 semesters of english (as u say you do) and atleast an advanced algebra course completed (which you do cuz u did calc I) then you should have stellar chances. lemme tell you though, if youre going to apply to marshall school of business, have a backup second choice major (such as Economics in college of letters arts and sciences) because you might be surprised how competitive marshall might be that year (yes even with transfers). so just put a somewhat easy backup major just incase. you can always transfer later.

Hey guys, Im a Business (likely Management or Finance) sophmore at UMass-amherst and USC is near the top of my current list (prolly 2nd behind NYU-Stern) of schools to transfer too. I will be applying as a Junior transfer and will have completed atleast 60 credits here. I was wondering if you guys who’ve been through this could tell me my chances of getting into Marshall… here are my stats:

-3.856 gpa (28 credits, all a’s with 1 B- in calc). If all goes as planned it will not go below 3.7 with 60 credits.

-ECs:
-Part of the Honors College here at UMass, Deans list all semesters

  • Member of: INvestment Club, Business Honors Council, Undergraduate Leadership Committee.
  • I also spent part of the summer helping kids in orphanages in Nicaragua which I plan to do again Summer '07
-I also sponsor and correspond with a child in Tanzania.
-I work a few hours a week as an Intramural ref/ump and also play in Intramural sports.
-During the summer I work 40+ hrs/week as an electrician. Hopefully I can land an internship this summer in a business related field.

I should be able to get a few good recs.

also, do you think I have a fair shot of getting some financial aid? How generous is USC with finaid for transfers?

Thanks for the help.

looks like you have a pretty good shot. just to let you know, however, if you really want to get into usc, apply as a second choice major to, say, economics-just incase. marshall is very competitive and random. a person with like a 3.75 (or somewhere around there) got rejected, so you never know. i just hope that calc that you got a B- in wasnt business calc bc i know marshall requires all of their transfers to have atleast a B+ grade in micro-econ, macro-econ, and business calc. i dont mean to sound negative or ne thing, it’s just the way it is. but if you really want usc, just letting you know, apply for a backup major as a 2nd major in the college of letters, arts and sciences.

it wouldnt be the end of the world though bc if you really wanna go and do your mba, you can be an economics major, take the gre exam, and still get into an mba program. or you can always transfer into marshall later on, kinda like an intercollegiate transfer or something.

Business Calc? This was regular “Calc 1”, I struggle in math but I will be taking “Calc 2” and trying to get a good grade next semester. I got a’s in both Macro and Micro econ. Maybe I will consider retaking Calc 1 at a CC during the winter break. I have never heard of Business calc and I don’t know if it is offered here… as for applying for a backup major, I will do that but in all honesty, If I don’t get into Marshall I’m not going. I don’t want to go to USC bad enough where I will change my career path. anyways, thanks for the help and I look forward to applying.

no prob. good luck

regarding math, i have a question:

I took two math classes, and right now I’m taking my 3rd math course (this is my 3rd semester btw, and im from community college):

Calculus I - B
Calculus II - A

Business Calculus is equivilent to Calculus I. And I got a B on it. Am I screwed?

Also, I’m taking a math course called “Math Analysis for Business And Social Science”, and its basically using calculus to apply to Business problems… like finding marginal rate of profits and revenues and all that good stuff.

However, the course name doesnt have the word Calculus in it, so the adcom will never know what kind of level of math this will be. Will this math course matter at all for the admission?

I’m pretty sure I’ll get an A on this course cuz 99.9% course materials I’ve already learned in Calculus I, and I even skipped some class, and got an 108% in the first exam.

I have a few questions to ask…154 pages is really daunting. Anyway, can anybody tell me the impacted majors here? Is the business school harder than others to transfer into? For those that have been around this thread for a while, what would you say is the mean gpa to get in? Any rejections? Also, does USC look at your SAT and highschool GPA for sophmore transfers?

Lastly, is it possible that if USC does not accept me, i can have a junior college class schedule that would allow me to transfer to a back up UC (the following year)?

Rejected for Annenberg school of comm with a 3.73 from a 4 year private for junior standing
Broadcast Journalism 1st Choice
Communications 2nd
I was told Broadcast J is the 2nd most impacted major
I would assume Film Production is 1st and Marshall is 3rd
with a 3.73

I am a film major, my current GPA if I were to transfer to USC would be 3.32. What are my chances in getting admitted? The film school looks more at your creativity.

i have no clue
