USC transfers.

well, that answers one part of the question. so whats easier to get into, school of policy or econ ?

probably econ

not trying to sound like an ass but, what are your reasons for thinking econ’s easier ?

you’re not sounding like an ass. im actually an econ major myself. econ is my life. i love econ so much, that i read every issue of forbes magazine and alan greenspan’s bio for fun. the only reason why i think school of policy planning is harder to get into than the econ major is because those separate schools usc has, such as keck school of medicine or annenberg school of communication or school of film, are actually way harder to get into than the college of letters, arts, and sciences. that’s what im basing my assumption on. then again, like most economists, im assuming and i could be wrong.

would is be possible to get into usc with a 3.1 in mechanical engineering at university of illinois?

i think it would be cool to go to USC but i have NO IDEA how to pay for it.

3.6 from nyu, think i have a chance? my stats and other info are in the thread “seriously thinking about a tranfer, please help?”

went down to find an apartment today round the usc area, and holy **** was i in for a surprise. that place is sooo fucking ghettoooo. i dont know how the * im gonna live there for the next 3-4 years.

vonska… seriously dont stress about it.

ive always lived about 30 minutes away, close to long beach and such and my cousin used to live in that area. when i was little i was terrified cause i used to actually play basketball at this ghetto park and 50ft away some teens were dealing some weed.

but during my numerous visits to the campus to visit my friends…they all tell me that its mostly only ghetto there at night. dont head out by yourself and keep close to the college crowds. also, dont go past the freeway, thats when you should freak out. other than that it is not that bad of a place as long as you have common sense. i mean, i hope you werent expecting luxurious living.

being in an out of la and hollywood all my life i;ve grown to know that those places a facades and they look nice when shown on TV but in person it is a completely diffrent story… but thats life in LA. I think its the most real thing to life. sad, but true. hmmm…

^^^^ I’m sorry but how can a place be “ghetto” only at night? Ghetto isn’t defined by the activities of a neighborhood, but by the racial makeup and poverty level of that neighborhood. Just be safe and smart, know when and what places you can go alone or not and just in general be catious. You’ll be okay. You won’t be the only one who has ever had to be in this situation.

Ghetto takes on a new meaning in LA, us Angelinos don’t actually take the literal meaning. Ghetto is used more broadly, to define anything related to the ghetto (ie. ghetto slang, ghetto looking people, inner-city culture so to speak).

I agree with El Rey, don’t worry about it vonska. In no time you’ll learn how to cope in Angeles. It IS ghetto at night! Everytime I go out at night whether it’s in Downtown or Hollywood, the crowd always changes.

This is how it can only be “ghetto” at night:
The crowd in during the day, in downtown, is more middle/upper class because that’s when all the office workers come to work in the towers. Right before sun sets, all the workers leave Downtown and a new crowd comes out, the “ghetto” crowd. Hollywood is the same, shoppers and tourists during the day, ghetto folk during the night.

A tip: Try to be insconspicuous during the night too. Dangerous individuals in Los Angeles hate it when you look at them for too long (“EY FOO U TRYNA DOGG ME?”).

johnzen is right.

its like visiting hollywood and highland. during the day tourists habit the area but at night its all the bums and weirdos that arise from the metro stations. about 2 years ago i was in the metro with my friends when this hobo came up to me with an imaginary shotgun and pretended to shoot me. i was so scared, luckly the cops arrested him.

ive always lived in a nicer area in the orange county area but used to visit la through the metro on a weekly basis as my friends and i went to vine, and universal, etc… and even at the age of 13 i never felt unsafe, mainly because we always had our guard up.

this place is definately unique in its own odd manner.

damn, that’s some crazy stuff. im guessing ill get used to it. im not gonna lie though, i was scared for my life n i didnt even dare to step out of my car. but i guess if like 30,000 other usc students can live there, i prolly can too. thx for the advice.

3.44 with 4 w’s and 2 remedial math classes bringing down my gpa.

what do i need to get into marshall? all of my major prerequisites are good grades. I have astounding ec’s and will have really good essays.

will i get in?

if im not mistaken…i remember reading some where on the usc.edu site, including some people mentioning here that marshalls transfer gpa is pretty high like 3.75 right people? or 3.8.

vonka: I am a transfer student joining USC in spring '07. I am stuck with similar problems as you are. read thru your posts … seems that you were in search of a roommate… even I have applied for on campus housing and till date don’t really know where I’m gonna live… I called usc housing last friday … they told they are going to start assigning housing for transfers/ upperclassmen by next week… you please let me know how you liked the apartments and every other detail pertaining to it… thanks…

el rey, you are right. marshall is pretty competitive.

D-7, glad to know someone’s on the same page as me. i havent heard anything from housing yet. though you should know, the south and east sides of campus are nothing but empty spraypainted warehouses and abandoned apartments. the student crowds seemed to be on the north and west blocks of campus. im just waiting to hear from housing this week. if usc doesn’t arrange my housing by the end of this week, i will go out and find a place of my own.

but ya i am looking for a roommate. in a worst case scenario, if youre down, we can get a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment with like someone else. that way wed each have our own rooms n stuff. thing is, i dont care who i live with, as long as i have my own room and someone to split the rent with. cuz there are plenty of 2 or 3 bedroom apartments, its just that you have to find your own apartment-mates or w/e- landlords dont typically find them for you. on the other hand, its harder to find single apartments, and they cost a lot more than if you were to rent out say a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment and split it with 2 or 3 other pps.

in anycase stick around on the forum n hope for the best. keep us up to date on your end, too.

again, from all the people I hear moving out, they have to have spots for you spring transfers in housing

vonska: you are transferring from which university?.. are you also business major?.. and are you california resident?..

justdrop: are you sure dude…?
