sigh…some people say “u don’t need a high gpa to get into usc” and that’s wrong!!!
it seems even harder than ucla/cal if you are a california community college student

yeah, it seems like we’ll need a 3.7+ to be considered… and a 3.8/3.85+ to be competitive.

I was wondering, do you guys think its harder to get in as a sophmore transfer or a junior transfer? I’m thinking harder as a junior but I was wondering what your guys’ opinions are

If you apply as sophomore (which by definition means you have less than 30 semester units completed), USC will put your HS record into consideration, which includes your HS GPA and the SAT scores. If you apply as junior (> 30 units), then they will not consider your HS records.

So it depends. Were you a strong candidate during HS? If so, then applying as sophy wouldn’t hurt you. But if that’s not the case and have a horrible HS record, then the chance of you getting admitted as sophomore becomes that much slimmer.

i thought when you apply as a sophmore its considered 30 units or more and a junior is considered to have 60 units or more, because the first year is your freshmen year and if you finish 30 units and you would then be applying for a sophmore status when you apply and I’m also guessin if you were a sophmore in college you would have to have 60 units in completed or in progress and would be applying for a junior status right? or am I totally wrong?

socal?: It’s gone up that much now to be considered? Wow. I thought usually from what I heard, that getting a 3.5-3.6 made you competitive and anything above that was almost guaranteed admission. Wow, I better start improving my grades (3.5 GPA currently, although could be around 3.7-3.8 after this semester) before I apply next year as a Junior transfer. Coming from a CCC.

Someone asked if they are interested more in Major preperation and GE GPA or overall, i have the same, so far 4.0 GPA from SMC, but ****ty at U of A, starting to sound like a broken record. Also, how competitive is the school of philosophy?

chocolategabanna, when i asked a USC rep what they meant by 30 credits, they said they want 30 credits by the time you apply. But, some other guy posted here and another USC rep said 30 credits by the end of the year. can anyone 100% confirm which one is right ?

from what i understanding reading the guidelines and looking on their website you need a bare minimum of 30 units to be transfer eligible, and they push you to try get in for the fall of 08. some say its because they want you to take the ge’s there so they get money, but thats always up for debate. by 30 units i believe it is a combined completed or in progress…circa: yeah i went to admit day and i just didnt feel right there. the business school is for mba and they’re considering having undergrad business in the next couple of years from what students told me.

IIIII, I talked to USC about that same question, the lady said if you are going have 30 units or more done by the end of the year, then they wont base it off your hs stats, so basically if you did 15 units first semester and second semester 15 units, you will be fine. But my question was if you are transferring with 30 units completed, then you would be put in at USC as a sophmore status right?

is it hard for someone to complete 15 units per semester on a quarter system at sd? thanks

fight_on1, I’ve heard that same rumor about paying more money and taking the ge’s there but the main reason you definately want more than 30 units completed or 30 units in progress when applying because anything less than 30 units they will base on high school stats.

sorry confused_junior, I dont really understand your question and I really dont know the quarter system that will sorry.

i kinda want to go to usc

confused jr, credits at quarter system schools go bye X/1.5

chocolategabanna, yeah youd be consider a sophmore. If you have around 60+ youd be considered a jr.

i didnt read the whole thread and i’m sure some of you have postedthis question before. but i just want to know how is this going to work when usc posts decisions on june 1st while the SIRs for UCs are due june 1st? Thanks in advance!

if usc is your top choice :
you have to send our SIR and wait for USC…
if usc accpet you, you just lose your deposit
if it doesn’t
then you go to uc

IIIII, thanks for the confirmation.

no, i was kind of exaggerating. a 3.6 has been considered a relatively “good” gpa in past years, but there’s supposedly a lot more competition this year for transfer slots… i think getting a 3.6+ is a good start, but i don’t think a 3.7 gpa will automatically earn you an acceptance. they’re trying to gain prestige, so it’ll probably be a little harder to get in with grades that would have been perfectly acceptable last year.
