USC transfers.

czattcla2 -
from what my admissions counselor has told me, i don’t think major prep matters much if you’re just trying to get in… admission to the university is mainly based on your academic record, not general ed completion. major prep becomes much more important when you’re applying for competitive schools like marshall and viterbi. if your overall gpa is low, but your transcripts show an upward trend, you should be alright as long as you provided an adequate explanation. major prep really isn’t that big a deal.

PSh, I made a $500 bet against myself that I would not get into USC. So either way, if I get accepted or rejected, happy day for me!

I’m coming from 4 year university w/ a 3.7 gpa in biology. Does anyone know if it is hard to be admitted into the biology major at USC with that gpa? I know at UC schools it’s almost impossible to be accepted into biology since it’s so impacted. But is this the case at USC?

if you know you have all the bio prereqs done, then you should be fine. prereqs can be found here http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/docs/admission/TransferringBook_2007_2008_v6.pdf

make sure the classes you took transfer into those.

lol doryx, i think everyone on CC should do that so we can all stop stressing out

does anyone know when USC will be asking for midterm grade reports? i think i also want to include that i’ll be taking summer courses in my app somehow. anyone know a way i could do that? thanks (i applied to marshall btw)

it’s in early june but not everyone will be asked
i guess they request it if you are taking a major prep course in spring

for me i included my summer course as “planned” in the marshall application
for your situation, you better call the admission office and ask

qqstitch and biggyboy, I was wondering if you guys are sophmore or junior transfers? and the midterm reports you guys are talking about, are those the same as spring request for grades?

yes. and i am a sophomore transfer

i am a junior transfer
how about you? did you apply to marshall too?

oh wait. no midterm grades are not the same thing as spring grades…by june, you would have your final grades. and i’ve applied to marshall as well.

I am a sophmore transfer and I put my major as undecided but if I get accepted then I will internally transfer into Marshall or the College arts and letters for Psychology.

if you transfer as a sophmore into an undecided major can you still take classes that the sophmores in marshall are taking?..but aren’t you suppose to declare a major no matter what?

Well the thing is that I put undeclared because I wouldn’t have gotten into Marshall because I haven’t completed business calc yet but ive done both econs and both english requirements and I would have not gotten into psychology because I have not completed the math requirement for it. It said in the application that you do not have put down your intended major for sophmore transfers because it is optional, but for junior transfers, it is required that you must.

ooic…thanks for the clairfication…but if you put down marshall…and didn’t get in wouldn’t they just accept you as undecided?

yeh I’m pretty sure they would accept you, but I think that only applies if you are a sophmore transfer though, but I put undecided also because I want to keep my options open if I get in.

do you think sophomore transfers are more likely to get spring grade requests? compared to junior transfers

they generally send spring grade requests to all sophomore transfers. if you’re worried about it, read through the earlier posts to this thread - quite a few people got accepted last year after receiving the request but before they actually sent in their spring transcripts.

I was wondering, hypothetically speaking, if you were a sophmore transfer and you were sent a spring request for grades and lets say you get straight A’s second semester which were better than your first semester grades where you got something along the lines of 3.5-3.7, would that somewhat assure you that your going to be accepted since your showing improvement in your grades?

is there anyone here who’s transferring from ucsd or is planning to transfer? i have questions…
