USC transfers.

I have been checking this thread periodically ever since I applied to USC. I thought I’d just report that I got in.

To anyone who was curious I was admitted to the school of engineering as a sophmore transfer. I had a 3.7 ish to 3.8 ish gpa at my community college and I had minimal ecs (I was stressing out about this big time). I think I got away with this because the only GEs i completed were english all my other credits were in math and science (this semester alone i took 17 units of math and science…never again). I also had a descent essay (at least I thought so).

Good Luck Everyone!

Congrats Alright123, it seems like the transfers to hear first are usually the people applying for engineering, but I was wondering how many units are you going to have done in totatl?

Anyone hear from marshall yet? anyone know when they’ll hear from marshall? Any guesses?

First week of June is when everyone should get their letters. If they request spring grades (probably from all sophomore applicants) expect your final letter julyish.

hey alright123, didn’t they request a spring grades report or a final transcript? and when exactly did u get ur decision?

About 2 weeks ago I got a spring grade request from the school of Cinema Arts (applying for production). Haven’t heard anything back from them since.

I did talk to a general admissions person about 1 week ago who said they had yet to get the committee together for reviewing applications.

To answer some questions I am to lazy to quote:

They only accepeted 27 of my credits…gah! But luckily that does not include this semester. I havent looked at the packet they sent me so I don’t know if there is a spring grade request some where in there. One of the letters in there did say though that I must complete my current semester at the same level I had been performing (i think this basically means no Cs)

27 credits out of how many? What didn’t they accept?

Has anyone else who applied for financial aid been recieving letters in the mail about steps to take in filling it out. I got one letter turned everything in and then recieved a follow up with more instructions for additonal info.

i don’t think i wanna fill out jack until i find out if i’m accepted.

no one heard from marshall?

Hi everyone! I thought I should post this here since it concerns USC:

As of now, I have been admitted to USC under Roski School of Fine Arts with minimal financial aid. USC has been my dream school and to have finally been admitted was overwhelming. Because of USC’s high tuition (about 50k/yr), my parents are considering the community college route. However, I really want to go to USC to have the full college experience (dorm life, meet teachers, make new friends, etc).

After reading this thread, it seems the avr. gpa is 3.8, but admission is still a gamble. To add to the problem, I plan on going to USC’s school of Film/Television to pursue its animation/digital media major. The general consensus is that this school is very competitive.

To summarize: Should I pay the pricey tuition and go to USC (I also have to change majors) or go to community college and transfer to USC’s film/vfx school? How does most USC undergrads deal with the tuition (summer CC classes, job, get outside scholarships?) and what are the benefits of being an undergrad at USC as opposed to CC?

FYI: I was also very lucky to get into USC in first place so going to CC will be a step back ,especially if I don’t make the transfer
My HS record: 3.6 weighted GPA, 2000 combined SAT, but a strong art portfolio).

Go to USC or go to UCLA if money is an issue. Transfering to a film school is very difficult. You can always take GE courses at your local community college and graduate 1-2 yrs early.

alright123, you’ve got a pm

Its been 3 months since my last post here.

Chance me? <3

I graduated from HS june 2006. Started Cerritos Community College Fall 06 and am doing classes now here Spring 07. My Fall 06 grades werent as great as I had hoped to apply to USC as a sophmore transfer for Fall 07. So I will be applying to enter USC as a Junior Transfer for Fall 08.

Fall 06 Classes:

English 100: A (4 units)
Anthro 100: A (3 Units)
French 101: C (5 units)
History 241: C (3 Units)
Math 80a: C (3 Units) Fall 2006 GPA: 2.77 (18 Units)

Spring 07 Classes:

English 102: I am certain will be an “A” (3 Units)
Sociology 101: A (3 Units)
Theatre 150: Probable “B” or “A” (3 Units)
Poli Sci 101: Probable “B” or “A” (3 Units) Total Units: 30

--------------------- So assuming i do well my overall GPA will be 3.27

This summer im taking 2 Classes:

Screenwriting 241
and
Astronomy 103 with Lab

Then in Fall 2007 I plan on doing 4 or 5 classes. Same with Spring 2008. Those classes will consist of a required math class but for the most part elective type courses.

Assuming I do well, my GPA will rise to about 3.5 - 3.65

All of my GE’s will be done and all the required classes. A professor told me that since i did not do too well in french and that in high school i went all the way to spanish 3…that i am automatically can be placed in a Spanish 201 class at my community college. So i would only need to do that class to fulfill my foreign language req.

My intended major for USC is Creative Writing or 2nd choice Poli Sci, which explains the reason im taking poli sci 101 right now.

If you just applied with a 3.26, I don’t think you’ll get in.

If you raise your GPA and apply next year, you’ll be competitive with a 3.5-3.6 gpa. Just write a good essay, get some letters of rec, and EXC to make it up. The general consensus is that you need 3.5-3.7 to be competitive and anything above that is likely to get accepted. I’m no expert, but that’s my opinion lurking the forums.

sup foos. when are they releasing decisions?

Thanks Doryx. Also, during my HS year i was very active in a few clubs from philosophy, theatre and big brother type of services. also elementary school volunteer.

Now in Community College i have done some work with Habitat For Humanity and am the Vice President of the college’s Model UN Club. Most likely this Fall 07 semester and Spring 08 I will be the President of the club.

(I do also plan on joining some more clubs)

i’m expecting a decision in the next week… just wondering what you all think about my chances.

sophomore transfer
neuroscience major
black female

college credits at time of app: 16 at virginia tech + 12 dual enrollment
college + ap credits shown on transcripts: 43
college gpa: 3.8

hs gpa: 3.02? i think
sats: 2070

lots of ecs. critics said my essay was awesome.

yes? no? maybe?

I just called the office of admission yesterday and a female representative said transfer applicants will receive the decision mail by the end of May.

Just wondering, did anyone get the desicion? I think someone may already hear back from USC 'cause it’s been almost 3 month since the application deadline which means they had well enough time to make a desicion!!

I think they wait until they’ve gotten they’re arms around the freshman commitments- SIRs. Obviously, some departments know they have space available to transfers sooner, but many probably need to know the incoming numbers first. When is the SIR deadline? And of course, there is always upperclassmen who are not continueing…
