college girl- I’d imagine you’d have to get a 5 on the AP exam to get full credit. A 4 may suffice for a semester or 2.

wat major are u guys?

Broadcast Journalism if accepted to USC

currently Audio, Video, Film production

Creative Writing here, hopefully I’ll be able to minor in screenwriting as well.

for anyone asking about Foreign Lang you need to pass a placement test at USC to get credit for ur foreign lang requirement. They give 4 credits for a 3,4, or 5 on an AP lang exam. But according to the articualion agreement no GE credit for ur foreign language requirement.

oops, forgot to say. I’m a business major… go marshall!

I am about to send in my Spring grades, straight A’s, making my overall GPA a 3.9, so I am in good shape there.

I was going to send in a brief letter that states I am in the process of becoming a volunteer at UCLA Medical Center, BUT I was wondering if USC 1) will look down on me for sending in supplemental material besides my grades, and 2) for volunteering at a rival school’s hospital.

I really want to get into USC, and I don’t want to screw this up now, so should I send in the brief letter or not? Thanks

BTW, I applied to Neuroscience

I don’t think they will look down on you for sending in supp materials, but I think it would be uneccessary. Just let whatever you’ve already submitted along with your stellar grades represent you. I don’t think they’d mind u volunteering at FUCLA but I wouldn’t let anyone there know that you may be going to USC cuz that might get ugly, lol. Id just send the grades and wait for a response. Good luck. Fight On!

The reason I thought it was important to note that I am going to start volunteering is that I haven’t yet done any community service in college, I had only high school service to mention in my application, and I thought they might be happy to hear I have become involved with my community at this point, as the lack of volunteering/community service is a weakness of my app. Thanks for the reply!

I would venture to say that if they requested your spring grades then most likely your lack of community service didn’t have a bearing on whether they accept you or not. If that bothered them, they probably wouldnt have requested spring grades because they wouldn’t be expecting you to send community service with those grades. The grades should suffice, but if you want to include it it shouldn’t hurt. Your welcome.

goldenjet,

Orientation was only one day but I stayed for three days since I flew all the way in from hawaii. I did orientation on Friday and then I spent Saturday walking around campus, going over to university village, and buying stuff at the bookstore and then I spent Sunday with some family friends before I caught my flight. I wish orientation had been two days but I think I got everything done I needed too and then I had time to just see campus so it was great. I also met the English/Creative Writing advisor and had lunch with her and other Creative Writing and English majors and it was great. I was able to register for a screenwriting class too which I was super happy about. I’m also taking intro to cinema. good luck! I hope to see you at USC next year and hopefully we’ll have some classes together! =)

i’m in!! so so relieved

So all of you who applied as transfers (incoming sophomores) to USC basically did:

2 semesters of a foreign language
1 math class
1 writing class
4 general requirement classes (western cultures, global cultures, scientific inquiry, arts & letters)
1 diversity class
Pre-requisites for major (about 3 classes)

Is it just me or is that WAY too many classes to fill in one year. So does that mean that I should just pick and choose which classes I want to complete before coming to USC (if I get in) ?

Or is the writing and math the only ones REQUIRED for admisson as a sophomore?

So yeah, as you can tell, i’m really really lost.

Woot… got all my grades online tonight… tomorrow I’m off to hand-job… errrr hand-deliver my scripts to USC. So happy that wait is finally over… now on to the much much worse wait for the final acceptance/rejection… sigh

Also, before I continue on with switching around my whole freshman schedule to fit USC…how much free money should I expect considering my EFC is 9-10K?

44K-10K= 34K.

Does that mean I should expect around 30K in free money? That seems like too much…I can’t imagine them hading that out.

Okay…for those who applied as a sophomore transfer students…this is for the post above about classes to take…I took (for Biological Sciences)

FALL 05 - 14 creds
Microbiology
Human Anatomy and Phys. I
English Literature
Ethics

SPRING 06 - 16 creds
Human Anatomy and Phys. II
English 101
Psychology 101
Art History 2
Intro to Political Science

and was accepted to USC this fall. I know this fall that I have to take a math class (my hs class was accepted for the prereq), and hopefully I will test out of Spanish or place into the third year. Basically, take a wide range of courses that corralate closely to USC’s GE’s. Still waiting on a transfer credit evaluation…hopefully everything comes back good…

Assuming that USC comes out to 14K or so in non-free money (my EFC is about 10K), I think I’m going to change around my entire freshman schedule.

FALL

Calc for business/econ (pre-requisite for a calc class needed for business or economics majors)
Music 191 (Gen-Ed category V; Arts & Letters)
English 110 (fulfills requirement for 1st english course)
Intermediate Hebrew I
SOCI 107 (Diversity requirement)

SPRING:

Macroeconomics (pre-requisite for econ and business majors)
Microeconomics (see above)
Intermediate Hebrew II
English 112 (fulfills the required 2nd english course)
HIST 100 (Gen Ed category I; “Western Cultures and Traditions”)

Make sense? Enough requirements covered before attending USC if I end up getting accepted?

Also, awin…how exactly does it work with the languages? You either get to place out of 2 semesters and take only 1 when you come to USC? and the other option is to just take 3 college semesters? Is USC ok with an incoming sophomore coming in with absolutely no language from their previous college?

Also, does anyone think that me applying from all the way in Connecticut (UConn) will help?

Thanks a TON! I’m sorry for being annoying about all this, but I’m just starting to get the hang of how exactly USC works.

lex13, im sure u know the drill, but those who get accpeted normally post their stats to relieve or worry, those who haven’t. So whats ur GPA and what major are u going for? Also if u sent in spring grades how long ago did u submit them(so we know how long it takes to get a response) Thanks. Congrats. Fight On! Hope to be joining you.

King, for the foreign language you can do it whenever you want but you need to finish the third level…like you can take 2 years before you transfer then the third year you take your first semester at USC…or you can wait and take a placement test at USC and whatever level you place into is where you start (1st, 2nd, 3rd level) and can even test out of the whole requirement…usually you start it early because it can take 3 semesters (unless you feel comfortable to test into the 2nd or 3rd level)…
I am coming into USC with no foreign language and was accepted…I did have four years in hs and and feel that I can test pretty high (3rd level or out of it)…also my college did not have 3rd year spanish so I tested out of it at my school (up to 2nd level)…

your classes look pretty good…there are 3 GE’s that you can’t take anywhere else…such as the Writing300 level…the Social Issues course and I think the Significance in Science course…other then that, look at the articulation agreement with similar courses and you should be okay…

about coming from UConn…I don’t think it will hurt but make sure you keep you grades incredibly high (like 3.6 and up) because if you look at these boards there are a lot of people from the UC schools and community colleges with high grades that also get in…so make sure you keep your grades high…good luck :)
