USC transfers.

Nope Collegegirl, I talked to him yesterday and he still hadn’t heard from Marshall… but my other friend who was waiting called me last night and said he got his rejection letter in the mail Saturday. :(

Starchbrach, you’re dealing with a bit of a broken thread, I must say… at this point, most of us are kind of burned out now… heh. Listen, ECs always matter, if for no other reason then to make you a better candidate. Just work your ass off at SMC, don’t worry about minimum requirements… just try to do as best you can and make yourself look like the best candidate possible. As you can see in this thread, there are some people with very good stats still sitting in limbo… you’ll need more then just a good GPA.

As for Scholarships, yes there are transfer scholarships from SC, there are also third party scholarships for transfer students. The values will vary depending on need and eligability… and if you want more cash, work your ass of and have good ECs  I think you’ll see that will help you not only get in to the school you want, but make you a much more viable recipiant for free cash.

mrpuppy,

thanks, but I’m confused…did you have two friends that were waiting for Marshall?

also, do you know their stats?

“Do ec’s count in community college as much as they do in high school for a traditional applicant?”

They don’t matter AS much, but they do indeed matter…so make sure to stay involved. USC receives way too many qualified applicants, so EC’s helps to weed out some.

“Does anybody know in general how difficult it is to get into USC as a transfer student in the psychology major? I know for a fact (by emailing USC’s admissions office) that the average GPA for admitted transfers regardless of major was 3.5.”

Yes, the average USC average is 3.57…but don’t forget that the 3.57 includes engineering transfers which generally have lower GPA’s than your average political science or psych transfer. No offence to you or CC’s, but since you’re coming from SMU, as opposed to a well respected U like UCR, make sure to have your GPA as high as humanly possible. Aim for at LEAST a 3.7.

“Also does anybody know of any USC and/or transfer scholarships available? I know there full ride or half ride scholarships out there but am not sure of the specifics.”

USC covers 99% of financial need, so if you need the money…you’ll get it. I’m not too sure which transfers get the merit though. I would guess it would be the kids coming from good schools AND high GPA’s.

AND MAKE SURE TO TAKE TWO SEMESTERS OF ENGLISH COMPOSITION. And as an incoming junior, make sure to complete the Psych requirements which include:

-Introduction to Psychology
-ONE out of: Precalculus, Math for Social Sciences, Intro to Math for Bus. and Econ., Fundamental Principles of Calculus, Calculus I.

thanks!!! Also, does anybody know if, in addition to one of the maths KingJames listed, Stats is required?

it’s possible that it’s required for graduation, but as for transferring into the program…no. Also, since you’re an incoming junior, it will definitely help to complete some of the USC general education requirements…

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/docs/admission/transfer_planning_worksheet.pdf

did any of you guys get a TRANSFER MERIT SCHOLARSHIP?

Its nuts that y’all are still waiting…I cant imagine anymore rejections this late.

hang tough kids.

Collegegirl, only one that was waiting for Marshall, the other was a Political Science transfer. So, long story short, the one waiting for Marshall is still waiting… the one who was waiting for Poli-Sci got rejected yesterday. As for exact stats, no I don’t know… except the one that was rejected did get a C this semester in Geology and dropped a Math class half way through the semester (didn’t show up as a W though, just was gone from his script completely…) Not sure if that C did him in or not, but I assume it might have.

we all have at most 10 days left until we officially know. think of it, the last orientation is on the 21st of the month, so that means we need to be notified atleast couple days in advance in order to have a reasonable amount of time to make our enrollment deposits and make it to orientation. that means that by the utmost LATEST, we should ALL know of our admission status by the 19th, making it only another 10 days.

just to say, we’re reaching the end of the road

i’m still awaiting a decision from USC as well…i received an email this past thursday from Chris Tokuhma one of the director of admissions asking me whether or not i was still interested in attending the school, and if so, if i could please send my spring grades. He left me his direct phone line and I called to ask if it had to be official or if I could send him an unofficial andhe said UO was fine…Upon emailing it to him he said Thanks, and that he’d add it to his file…
Any interpretations on what this all means? I’m so nervoussss…!!!

caligirl - are you a transfer? Why would they be calling to ask if you are still interested? Were you rejected before - or did you void your app?

im assuming because she was asked for spring grades and then never submitted them. Caligirl just means they should review ur file soon but dont hold ur breath they got my spring grades the 13 of June and I still havent heard anything. Ive been told Annenberg is just slow but its begininning to get a little ridiculous. Good luck. Fight On!

damn trojanwannabe, that is pretty ridiculous

Oh, I see…that makes sense, thanks for the clarification…

…wannabe, I’m thinking we are all going to hear by the end of this week. Also, what did you request for your new second choice major?

thanks trojanwannabe…
and to answer the previous question, i am a second year transfer student trying to get in as a sophomore for the fall of 2006…
i’m not sure what i applied under but I do think it was either poli-sci or something law related…
hm they need to chop chop with this…i’m getting anxious.

I sent an e-mail requesting Communications, its also part of Annenberg but not the super competitive journalism school. I have a 3.73 cumulative which I would think should give me a pretty good shot, but when I went to the transfer day program the guy giving the presentaton made it seem like if you were an incoming junior you would already have too many credits for the journalism school because it was supposedly a 5 semester program and they want people who can graduate in 4 yrs and if u had already done 2 years at another school then ur total would be 4.5 yrs. The guy giving the presentation made it seem like you wouldnt be a candidate for the journalism school if you had a lot of credits[supposedly you should have between 30-40 at the time of applying, at the time I first applied I only had 41.5(incl. 9 from APs in HS) because I applied in December before my fall grades for soph year were in, but after I sent fall grades I had 57] , so u should choose something else for a 2nd choice major. I have 69(with my Spring Grades credits incl.) but USC only transfers a max of 64. I have most of my GEs complete, I need to take 2 plus the 2 you have to take in residence and a Writ 340 class and I looked into it and I should still be able to complete all req for the broadcast journalism major in 2 more years so I’d be on track, but waiting this long is giving me so many doubts. I keep thinking if they were going to accept me they would have done it already. I though by this time I’d only be waiting for housing and things of that nature. This will all be worth if I get accepted. I just hope I hear soon. Good luck everyone. Hang in there. Fight On!

dude i got news for you. for usc transfers, AP units don’t count as units that you took at college. usc only counts those units that you took up after your high school graduation. so those 9 ap units you counted actually don’t count towards your transfer statistics.

OK so I have 60 credits that still puts me over the ideal number for the journalism school which still doesnt make sense becuase its only a 44 credit program . Thanks for the info.

Just found this though(Under courses that will transfer to USC, on the website)
"Advanced Placement (A.P.) and International Baccalaureate (I.B.) credits: A maximum of 32 units is granted under either the A.P. or the I.B. program, or in combination. Test results must be sent directly to USC from the testing agency. Once we receive them, your transfer credit report will show the credit.

For the A.P. program, USC awards elective units for scores of three or above on all tests except computer science, which requires a score of four or above. "

My 9 credits are from Ap Lang(3), AP Lit(3) and AP Psych(5). According to that staement on the USC website they would take all those for elective credits.
