USC Tuition Exchange

No, not a merit scholar.

Congratulations, @collquest68! But this uneven rollout is maddening. Best of luck to all those still waiting…

Congrats @collquest68! What deposits had you put down when you found out?

It sounds like there might be a person going through the list and sending out emails, rather than any kind of automated release of information. So much for no news is good news. I guess it’ll get here when it gets here.

Hang on, @VryCnfsd. There is a report of parents on this thread who have been notified that their student did NOT receive TE, so at least those who have not yet been rejected for TE, you are still in the running…

Gotcha. No news is no news

Best I can make of it is that with an 11-20% acceptance rate for TE applicants, USC TE is operating as a merit scholarship as it does at many schools. The decision-maker(s) seem to have excluded some from consideration as out of the running, and at least one we know of was so notified of his denial on April 9, 2020. Then, we had one report of a student being offered TE yesterday, April 13, 2020. Hopefully, the TE administrator is still working her way through the acceptances today. Or maybe she must wait until there are declined offers before tendering more. That said, those still waiting may still get good news. It’s hard to piece together the process or chances when the data is so scarce and non-transparent, so crowd-sourcing is all we have right now.

@VryCnfsd, We had not put down any deposits yet. We did submit the housing application, but I wouldn’t think that would matter. It does seem like most people (at least on this thread and another TE thread) have not heard, so I agree with collegeodyssey2001 that you may still get good news!

Do you think it’s by alphabetic order?

@whodat13 I doubt it. Cnfsd and dat are at the beginning of the alphabet, while quest is at the end, so we would’ve received ours by now.

Still no news. My friend got it but supposedly mine is still “pending decision.”

Was that yesterday (April 14), @whodat13 (that your friend was notified)?

Yeah came out yesterday

Thanks @whodat13 and good luck!

Ok Update: I GOT IT! Thank you @CollegeOdyssey2001 for the assurances and the explanations

I was a merit scholar and it took 2 days after my friend got it so I think that it probably was by alphabetic order, either first or last name. So I assume USC HR does not do it by acceptances hear first, more like it goes by name.

Congratulations, @whodat13! So happy for you. Are you committing to USC, then, or still deciding? Hard to pass up TE + Merit. I cannot believe how long they are taking this year with May 1 looming.

Received TE via email this afternoon! Hooray! Good luck to everyone still waiting.

First off congrats @hcbcdad ! And @CollegeOdyssey2001 I am basically committed, just need to put deposit down. Mainly because of the money cause i got into usc and duke => but duke is 60k more expensive so usc looks much better. Also USC has Price School which seems very cool.

Yay @hcbcdad! Will your student be a Trojan, or still deciding? Maybe there will be more of us to nudge USC TE to be a bit more transparent next year. Hoping the rest waiting get good news soon.

Congratulations on your impressive choices, @whodat13. Yes, the money definitely matters, and I agree that with two great schools, no need to pay $60K more for one. My S19 is actually signed up for two classes at Price this Fall in Aerospace Studies and Naval Science. There are so many options at USC that you can explore before committing to a major, double major, major and minor etc.
