I’m considering pre-med heavily, and I want to know if prestige matters at all for undergrad.

I’m a national merit finalist, so I have half-tuition at USC (Southern California, in case there’s any question) and full-tuition at U Arizona (as well as another miscellaneous out-of-state scholarship from UW that puts it at about the same cost as USC for me).

My parents would pay about the cost of USC or UW in any case (~35k) for four years, and I would take out the loans for medical school no matter what. The difference is that I’d take out ~100k (assuming that living cost at U Arizona is around 10k/year, which is not paid for by the scholarship) more loans for medical school than if I went to U Arizona.

Is it worth it to pay the extra money for USC or UW and would it help me get into medical school? Or is it more worth it to go to U Arizona and save up the tuition money for medical school?

Also, all of the above schools have medical schools–do they favor students from their own schools? Or do they favor students from their own states (I’m not from Washington or Arizona, so I wouldn’t be favored if that were true)?
