I’m from California (where UCLA and USC are, but you probably know that, lol), and it was so hard to get into the top UCs (Berk, LA, SD) for the HS class of 09! People with stellar GPAs, like 4.1-4.3 were turned down…so I suggest you up your GPA a little, esp. since you’re from Maryland and the UC Regents aren’t as merciful to the out-of-state-rs.

That’s as far as UCLA goes, though. USC? I think you’re a good match, with your ECs and whatnot.

Idk about Chapel Hill. All I know is that Anoop, from this season’s American Idol goes there/graduated from there. Hahaha.

Well, they aren’t nearly as close to holistic to schools like Ivies and all. I think your ECs are good enough. As I said, work on those stats a bit! :)

your ECs and Volunteer work look great! you just need test scores so it can solidify your chances more
and maryland is a definite match. also, try to find a couple safety schools and “probably” schools because I think the other schools are reaches.

Like you said, your grades aren’t the best, but I think you have some really good EC’s. Like others said, it is hard to say without any test scores to go off of. I think those schools might be reaches unless you can get really high test scores and attempt to raise your GPA a bit from this semester. Maryland is probably a match though. Hopefully those other schools won’t base things too much off of your GPA and look at your EC’s becuase I think you will have a better chance that way. Defintely add some safeties to that list. Good luck with everything!

Your ECs are great. Being of a minority will also help greatly (I’m not being a racist or bigot). Your GPA is on the low side for some of the schools you show interest in. Once you have your test scores you will be able to make a better decision on things.

Is your GPA weighted or unweighted?
I think your SATs are what’s really going to make or break you for UCLA. Also, try to get high scores on your SATIIs, the UCs really look at them.

country day: Not really. For one thing, she’s Filipino. Filipino = Asian. And UCLA doesn’t even look at race.

Anyway, to be more on topic, I basically agree with what everyone here has said wrt low GPA and good ECs. Honestly, I think schools like USC, UCLA, and UNC are more like reaches for you, but it depends on your test scores, really.
