My son has been accepted to both and he wants to go to USC. We are scheduled to visit both campuses within a week and a half. However, I was hoping to get some insight now about the pros and cons of both. We live in nj and, while I have concerns about him being 3,000 miles away in LA, I am also concerned about how big USC is. How easy is it to connect with professors? What is the quality of teaching like? How easy would it be to transfer out of business if he finds that it’s not a good match? What IS security like? How do these schools compare? Any insight you have would be much appreciated!
USC and Villanova both have great business programs. Let him go to USC if he wants to. In my opinion, it has a better program overall vs. Villanova. Only con with USC, is that it is not in a very nice neighborhood.
I routinely read stories in local newspapers about USC students attacked on their way home. Typically, Chinese students get attacked. (I think it is a stereotype that Chinese are not physically strong and don’t carry guns). I don’t remember USC doing anything about it, except typical bla-bla-bla. USC tries to “reach to the local community” and “establish bridges by bringing neighborhood to USC events”. Last time, as I remember, it ended up with shooting.
Beware of safety at USC. Honestly.
Please, understand, that for each student that is killed, many more were mugged. Security measures involve, mainly, community outreach.
My daughter was at USC for years and never had anything happened to her, not even anything stolen. Zip. She still frequent USC and volunteer to a lot of alumni event. She loves USC period. However, If I were Chinese student I might not be so incline to go there.
I also agree USC has a stronger business program.

Do not expect much help from USC security. Neighborhood is not so bad, but unfortunately, criminal elements learned to consider USC students a “legitimate prey”. IMHO, USC is doing NOTHING to address this issue. USC created cultural training for students and advices to call 911, if needed.

Gang related shooting. Inside USC party. What were these men doing at the USC party? Students of USC? Nope. Friends of students? Nope. Fraternity? Nope. Yes, community outreach organized by USC !
Wonna get exposure to Bloods and Crisps? USC would help you! Grrr… son of a friend of mine was at that party … s I take it really personally … for $40,000 per year USC would broaden horizons and bring a real-life gang shooting. … grrr…
Sorry for being emotional about USC. It is a good school. Personally, son of my friend had just one horrifying experience … and it tainted all things about that school.
