USC vs. Boston Conservatory

I can only speak to Boco since that is where my daughter is. It is definitely all arts, all the time. You have one liberal arts course each semester (freshman year, both are writing), and the rest is related to your major. My D loves all of her classes and teachers. Wanda Strukus is an incredible leader of the program. There is a lot of focus on movement and devised work and is completely ensemble focused. The campus is also extremely urban…there’s no “quad” or campus feel to it, but it is very easy to get around the city. You do get a year of classical training, if that’s important to you, and my daughter has spoken very highly of their many guest artists. My daughter consistently comments on how she has grown as an actor.

I will tell you that it’s small. Both the school and the major, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of MT students because there are nearly 50 of them, vs a dozen or so CT majors. Because the program is so new, it’s still figuring itself out. I can tell you, there’s nothing else really like it in the US. The program at New School is probably the closest, but even Boco is a more prescribed conservatory curriculum than that.

I am happy to answer any questions, also.

Congratulations on your terrific acceptances!
