USC vs. Northeastern - Quantitative Biology

My son intends to major in Quantitative Biology and has narrowed his college search to USC and Northeastern. He was admitted in Honors Program at Northeastern. Cost at Northeastern is $52K and USC is $64K. We are fortunate to be able to pay most of the cost so my son would graduate with little debt (less than $75K). He likes USC slightly more as QBio departments has been very engaging and current students rave about the dept/faculty. Any thoughts/recommendations? TIA.

FWIW 75k isn’t little debt …

thank you

So with loans being in play and if I’m reading this right, I think it’s hard to make a case that USC is worth 48K of more loans for a bio major. Both have quality programs for bio, though I can’t speak specifically to QBio.

Thank you.

$75k is not “little” debt, and would require parent loans or cosigned loans.

Also, biology graduate pay at the BA/BS level is fairly low. College Scorecard says that, for biology graduates who received federal financial aid, their median pay was about $27k from USC and about $38k from Northeastern. $75k debt would be a considerable burden for someone on that pay level.

(And if he is pre-med or other pre-health, he probably does not want to add $75k of debt to whatever hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt he will have for professional school if he gets in.)
