USC vs. University of Washington

We haven’t seen the financial aid offers yet, but it looks like it may come down to a choice between USC and UW (instate.) I am curious to hear opinions of the two schools. My son is still a bit undecided, but he was accepted to USC’s School of Policy Planning and Development (sounded interesting at the time he applied.) So any info or suggestions regarding SPPD would be welcome.

memama,
College selection is about fit and affordability. USC is a private university. Please wait for the financial aid package to arrive, which should be around April 1st, to aid in your decision.

Here are the rankings by U.S.News for the two universities. Rankings can be subjective and controversial, but they are often used by the media.

USC-Ranked 23rd in National Universities
Washington-Ranked 41st in National Universities

Student faculty ratio-USC 9/1
WA 12/1

Acceptance rate-2009-USC 24%
2009-WA 58%

The School of Policy, Planning and Development at SC, undergraduate, is a smaller school with a close relationship between students and faculty. Teacher student ratio is outstanding.

The graduate school is one of the best in the country, ranked 7th in the nation. City Management is ranked 4th, Public Management ranked #5th, Non-Profit Management ranked 7th. Other programs are highly ranked as well.

Has your son visited both campuses? He really should visit to see what each has to offer.

As a member of the Trojan family I think you will find SC to be highly diverse, filled with multi talented students due partly to the great art schools, located in a warm and sunny climate, offering a huge number of majors, cultural options of a large metro area and a strong alumni family. Your son’s peers will come from all over the nation and the world.

UW would stand a chance if the letter is reversed and the ending is st. louis XD jk but yea i am waiting for the fin aid too
