Greetings all,</p>

<p>Was just checking another forum and read a post by a parent whose daughter had received a LOA from the Academy two days ago. In the same thread, another parent commented her son had received a LOA as well. </p>

<p>Questions: </p>

<p>1) what does LOA stand for? Letter of Acceptance (Appointment, Admission)?
2) is it customary for appointments to be made so early?
3) do recruited athletes commonly receive appointments sooner?</p>

<p>1) LOA stands for “Letter Of Assurance.” It is another phrase for a conditional appointment. The “condition” can be any one (or more) condition(s) that must be met before a full appointment is granted. Most of the time, the condition is a congressional nomination, but as they are not used by USCGA the conditions could be good CFA scores, passing of DODMERB exams, or completing and submitting all of the required application forms by a certain date.</p>

<p>2) No, it is unusual. Early Action decisions are usually sent out around December 15th for those who send a completed application by November 1st.</p>
