I’m trying to apply to either University of South Florida or California State University - Fullerton. I want to major in international studies and I want to hear from you about these colleges. Which one has stronger academic strength, reputation, better environment for college life (both on campus and out of campus)?? please don’t post any false or emotional statement.

I found that Cal State Fullerton has an ACT range of 19-24. South Florida is listed as 25-29. Also, I see stated on USN that only 6% of Fullerton’s students live on campus. It has a reputation as a regional commuter school. It’s in a residential suburban neighborhood, not a college town at all.
Do some research on line and compare the two. I’m not familiar with Florida schools. Also, Cal State schools are all very impacted and the overall graduation time average is 5.5 years. Many very motivated students do make it out in 4 years, but my D’s friends that go there say they were strongly discouraged from taking a full load of classes.
Many successful people have come out of Cal States, though. But do your research.

Two very different schools on the opposite sides of the country. Not many of us will have experience/knowledge of both schools. :)

I don’t think CSU-Fullerton has a major in international studies. It does have a International Business/Trade/Commerce major (that’s a business degree). It also has a political science program, and I’m sure you can take a focus/electives in international studies (perhaps by taking some of the same classes as the business majors).

USF (main campus) does have a popular International Relations and Affairs major.

yes, you are right. CSU Fullerton does not have a direct major in international studies. Do you know if USF has a good reputation nationwide? I’ve heard USF is one of those up and coming colleges that are making great improvements.

Very few universities have nationwide reputations. :)

For example, most folks in Florida don’t even know that California has UC’s and CSU’s, let alone a CSU Fullerton. While most folks in California would say “USF? That’s in Miami?”.

I wouldn’t worry too much about nationwide reputation. Focus on cost, program/major and “fit”. If it’s affordable, they have the right major/program, and it’s someplace you would love to live (spending that much $$$ and effort, you should love the place), then it should be on your list of possible schools.

Good Luck!
