Would it be acceptable to use a quote for a prompt for the Common App essay?

As long as it is appropriate and isn’t too long, you should be fine. Just make sure it’s necessary for your essay, since the admissions people want to read your words, not someone else’s

i’ve used quotes as prompts for supplement essays. not sure about common app, but it should be fine.

I don’t mean incorporating a quote into the essay, but using it as a prompt. For example could I just write “You must be the change that you wish to see in the world” (Gandhi) at the top of the page and then write about mt thought on that quote and how I try to exemplify it?

thats what i said, a prompt. i think thats a good idea. in my fiske best essays book, there are essays that start with quotes.
