My son will be participating in a “scholars day” at his first choice college next weekend. Only interested students who have been nominated by their guidance counselors are invited to basically interview for scholarships (in groups of 4-5 students in front of a faculty/staff member or two). His guidance counselor only nominated him last week and he only received the invitation yesterday, so it’s a bit last minute.

My question - has anyone in this forum used a scholarship “coach” - someone to do just as the title suggests: coach your child in how to handle a scholarship interview/competition and what to expect. I have the contact info for someone who spoke at our church a few weeks ago and was extremely knowledgeable, having actually served as a merit scholarship judge.

My son presents himself very well on his own; he won a scholarship to the private school he now attends (participated in a private interview as part of the process), he’s Student Body President, he knows how to handle himself and speak in front of people; however, these are bigger stakes and different situation. He hasn’t participated in a group interview before.

And, if you haven’t used a scholarship coach but your child still participated in this type of scenario, how did they fare? What was asked of them? This is our first experience with this and he obviously wants to do his best, but I don’t want to waste my money if we don’t need to.
