I am currently taking a dual credit stats course over the summer (5 weeks intensive). It is a introduction to basic statistics. Originally my intent was to take this class and take AP stats later in high school. Now I am considering using this class and supplementing with some self study towards May and taking the AP exam.
The rest of my AP courses include
-AP calc BC
-AP World History (may not take this exam)
-AP English language
-Ap biology
Is it possible that AP bio content like chi squares will help me with statistics as well. And is there any portion of BC that might also be involved in statistics?
I don’t understand. Will you be taking AP Statistics in you high school career or not? It would seem extremely redundant to take an AP exam before the AP class. Your class is an “introduction”. It will take more than just a little bit of self-studying to be prepared for the exam (though it can be done). Also, you will have memorize the concepts you are studying right now until May. Biology doesn’t play a huge factor in Stats, so it doesn’t matter if you self study concurrently or not. Calculus isn’t necessary for AP Stats.
Why would you take AP Stats after a DE Stats course? The purpose of AP test is to get credit for a college stats class…which you have already taken and gotten credit for?
@pinklinks To answer your question I am not sure if I will be taking the class. I will either just self study for the exam in which case I will not take the class or I will take the class in the 2017-18 school year and not take the exam this year. Thank you for the other information!
@bopper The course I am taking is elementary statistics, at a community college. We do not review many things in depth. AP Statistics is equivalent to STAT 1342, statistical decision making, at some universities. I think my DE course is very basic and will not transfer to most universities.
