Using excess financial aid for tuition at another college

Hi, I have a kind of crazy question relating to the use of financial aid. I’m going to be finishing my bachelors degree up next year in Business. After I finish I would love to go back to school and get an associates degree in nursing (RN). I’m hoping to get into healthcare management. The problem is once i finish my bachelors degree i would not be able to get financial aid or student loans for the associates degree. I would be way over the maximum credits allow at my community college where i already have an associates degree from. I have no student loan debt, but I can’t afford to pay the tuition without help.

My tuition for my bachelors will be covered by a Pell grant. But with all schools the COA is much more then that so I could get the 8-10,000 in student loans. I then could put that money in a savings account until i needed it for my nursing degree. I’ve seen students take out loans and waste the extra money on paying off credit cards, cars, and vacations. This money would go purely for my education, but I of course won’t do it if its is against the terms of the loan. All I’ve seen is that excess loan money has to be used for education expenses, but not that it must be used within a certain time or at a particular school. It seemed questionable to me so I was just wondering if this sounded like it would work?

You’ll be in a new program for your associates. I would be surprised if the school would count credits from another program toward your new program. Talk to them to find out for sure.

Yes, you could borrow now & save it for later. I wouldn’t recommend borrowing unsub loans, as that doesn’t make sense. Sub loans don’t accumulate interest during school & grace period, so that would be a fine way to go.
