Using photos for Studio Art

The College Board is vague in the studio art course description. It doesn’t say whether or not photos can be used for 2D art. I can’t download the .pdf file for the course on my computer. The only mention of photos in the online summary is this:

If you submit work that makes use of photographs, published images, and/or other artists’ works, you must show substantial and significant development beyond duplication. This may be demonstrated through manipulation of the formal qualities, design, and/or concept of the original work. It is unethical, constitutes plagiarism, and often violates copyright law to simply copy an image (even in another medium) that was made by someone else.

I presume that they didn’t mean to include originals in that description.
So, provided I can submit photos for Studio Art: 2D - several of my photos that I would consider using have received a fair amount of circulation on the internet. It’d be irritating to be accused of plagiarism if the college board thought I stole them off some photo site. Any idea how to deal with that?

You may submit photos for the 2D Design portfolio but NOT the 2D Drawing portfolio (the passage you quoted refers to people’s use of photo references for their art).
