Using SAT tests for ACT

May I ask if it would be a good idea to use the SAT writing portion for the ACT English and the SAT critical reading (excluding the sentence completions) for the ACT Reading? (I have no problem for math).

There seems to be very few practice tests for ACT but there are quite a number for SAT.

Thanks!

I have been told this will not work.

There are 5 tests in the big red Real ACT book.

I wouldn’t try that.
However, there are more practice tests out there than you might think. Apart from the Real ACT Prep Guide (5 practice tests) there is the McGraw Hill prep book (10 practice tests), Barrons prep book (6 practice tests), and Kaplan/Priceton Review alternatives.

May I ask why would this not work? The long reading comprehension passages in the SAT and the ACT Reading part are almost the same, and in the ACT English, sentence and paragraph improvement questions are tested.

It seems like that there are MUCH MORE SAT practice tests in existence than ACT practice tests. I benefit well from practice.

Would it be advisable to prepare for both tests, as preparing for one could somehow help in preparing for the other?

Thanks!

It CAN be a last option, but there are free act practice tests online you can find. 1 on princeton review and 1 on kaplan site. Also if you google preparing for the act date(for example 2012-13) then you will find alot, atleast 5 or 6. Also i am not advocating this but, if you also google 10 act practice tests followed by a word that rhymes with warrant, that is another 10. So that is like 20 FREE tests you can find online.

Also, most states have an online library system, or your county. Mine has plenty of ACT books, which you can check out online and use the tests.

My daughter had SAT tutor over the summer and did SAT critical reading and writing sections with the tutor. She did maybe 1 section of ACT reading and none of English. She took September ACT and scored a 34 composite (34 on both reading and English section). After preparing for the SAT she found ACT much easier.
She is now debating if she should take January SAT. She’s a junior. Is 34 good enough to get into top Ivy?

^Yes 34 is good, but since all Ivy League schools and schools of similar caliber use holistic admissions, she’ll need more than a good ACT score.
