My daughter was awarded State Scholarship money that she did not use since she is going to an out of state school. She is majoring in nursing and will need to take 2 summer courses at the local community college. Will she be able to use that state Fasfa $$$ and who do we contact to do this?

Some state scholarships specifically exclude summer. I know Bright Futures (FL) does.

Her money is from FASFA, she was planning on going to UMASS Amherst, but ended up going to URI.

FAFSA does not give money. FAFSA is only a form that determines eligibility for certain sources of money.

If she received an extra state grant from UMass-Amherst, it was probably tied to her attending as a full-time, degree-seeking student at UMass. You can ask the CC if she would be eligible for state FA, but the rules are different because she’ll be a non-degree-seeking student at the CC.

Agree with purpleacorn ^^^^^ and reiterate that FAFSA is a service that provides info to the universities and federal programs for financial aid services.

If she is not regularly enrolled in the state university system as a degree seeking student, it is highly unlikely that she will be able to use the scholarship to take ad-hoc summer courses.
