I’m worrying my junior psat scores (10/15) won’t be as good as last year’s sophomore scores. Will they send out the best scores? ecause of a midyear move to another H.S. my 2010 psat scores where never sent out. They were 99 percentile for a jr. If I don’t do better this yr…can’t I use last yrs. Do they mix and match categories for your best math, best verbal, etc?

PSAT scores don’t get sent anywhere. They aren’t used in the college application process except for qualifying for national merit scholarships. Only your junior year PSAT score can be used to qualify for a national merit scholarship. So, if your sophomore year PSAT was 225 and your junior year was 199, you would not qualify for national merit.

The junior year PSAT scores are the only ones that matter for determining Commended Scholars and National Merit Semifinalists.

Mixing and matching applies to SAT scores, not to PSAT scores.

High schools don’t send out your PSAT scores to colleges; they distribute each student’s score report to that student.

You can find more information about the PSAT by searching for the official guide to the PSAT online. Also, instead of worrying that your scores won’t be as good as last year’s (an unlikely event), you can review for the PSAT by starting with the information in the official guide and then reviewing SAT practice problems, which should be similar (except that the PSAT doesn’t have an essay section). Good luck to you!
