Using the same REC letters

Hey.
I applied as an international student to Princeton class of 2016 (regular action) and got wait listed. We all know how that went, so i’ll jump to the question.
Is it ok (read: does it hurt my chances of admission) for me to use the same recommendation letters as i did last year (i’m applying early to the class of 2017), or should i get new ones?

Consider that last year Princeton received nearly 27 000 applications for admission…I would be surprised if they remembered your recommendation letters. Having said that, perhaps your credentials have improved since last year’s application and these could be reflected in new letters, which would be to your advantage.

If you were originally waitlisted you certainly had a great application. Good wishes in this next round!

Thank you for the input. What about using the same essays? I was really satisfied with my last year’s supplement essay and I’d love to use it again.

I do not advise you to send in the same Recs or send in the same essay.
If you were waitlisted than obviously you had fantastic credentials.
But then again the fact remains true that you were eventually waitlisted.
Therefore you must show growth in your application.
Secondly I am sure they would have yourlast years app in their system
to go through again and then they will go through your new app to see how you have shown growth as a student and what you have done in the past year with your time.
Remember all colleges ask in their apps as to if you have applied to that college before
or not and if yes then in which year.So there HAS to be a reason to ask such a question.Hope that helps.
