USPS Eliminates Surface/Ground Mail services!! Call for Action!

I am writing here today to ask for support in signing a petition to bring back the international surface mail service (ground shipping - the cheap slow service) from the United States Postal Service (USPS).

On May 14th, the USPS dropped the international surface mail and all economy mail services.

I have created a petition, you can go here
<a href=“Petition Online - Petition Online has been retired”>Petition Online - Petition Online has been retired; to sign it. Please join the already 1500+ petitioners.

This elimination is severely going to hurt humanitarian aid groups such as the Peace Corps as well as book companies, expatriates, students, especially those living overseas or foreign students living in the US, small businesses, and lots more.

Please support us by signing the petition and passing it to everyone in your group, organization, company or church who you think benefits from this service or who would like to see the service return.

I am hoping to get them to turn their decision around, or create a new service that will benefit everyone who uses the economy services.

Please spread the word!

Thank you in advance for your support.

Of course any discussion about this issue is welcome to be posted!

wow. they raise the stamps like 2 cents and now do this.

why dont you just use fedex

I got massacred when I sent some shipped some stuff to Namibia semi-recently. It was great that the stuff got there in a week, but I would have much rather paid a 1/3 the price for three times the transit time. I wish you the best.

ad.bc,

You seem to miss the point about surface mail… FedEx is about 10-100 times more expensive then even air mail. FedEx is a fast courier service. Surface mail goes by ship, sometimes taking up to 12 weeks to arrive. There is a big difference in these services. Sometimes if I order a book, yes I want it, but it is not that urgent, so I am willing to wait 12 weeks for it and pay a lot less shipping for it. Many organizations rely on the ground services for very heavy packages, sending 500lbs of goods by FedEx would cost an unbelievable amount of money.

ok it does kinda suck that you have to pay a lot more for mail now
but why are you so passionate about mail rates? i mean its not like the governments going to listen to you. they do whatever they want.

Because I live overseas and it gets expensive to ship stuff I need from back home. And if no one does anything or at least tries to do something than it is a for sure thing nothing will ever change.

I already know what a big challenge this is, but I have the peace corps on my side, they are doing another petition in their group, so, so far collectively we have almost 7000 signatures, but we need a lot more and we already know it is going to take time, but someone has to do something and for now that person is me and a handful of others that are druming up support.

um do online petitions really matter?

edit: I take it back…It doesn’t…
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp</a></p>

why dont you have a protest outside of the post office and invite a news crew to come.
wouldnt that be more effective than a petition.
or like mail letters to the person in charge of the post offices.

ad.bc,

It appears you don’t read replies to clearly…

I am overseas as stated previouly.

And petitions do work and their are success stories regardless of what urban legends say…

No, no they don’t work. Are you even familiar with “snopes.com”? The urban legend was that they do work, and snopes refuted it and said they don’t.

Online petitions most definitely do not work.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree with you. And I would hope people would stay on topic. Thanks.
