UT Arlington vs University of Houston (Computer Science)

I recently was admitted into both schools and was wondering which would be the most lively campus. I visited UTA and really liked it but it felt kind of dead

Both are good … UTA CS program is ranked a little bit higher but I don’t think it’s a good idea to make a decision solely on rankings. When did you visit UTA campus? Was it during the holidays, weekends, or during class time? If so, the campus usually be dead.

4 Similarities:
*Both are centrally located in huge metropolitan areas. You’ll have a lot of cool things to do nearby off campus compared to students living in say College Station.
*Both are big STEM and research universities that attract a bunch of smart and nerdy people.
*Both are very big schools. UH is 3rd largest in Texas. UTA is 4th largest (2nd largest if you count their online students)
*Both are very diverse with means there all kinds of cool things going on weekly on campus

4 Differences:
*UH is more of a sports school. UTA students loves their sport teams but it’s not a super big deal as you’ll see more at UH
*The campuses are very different in design and aesthetic. I’ve visited both and I prefer UTA campus more but UH campus isn’t “bad”.
*Living in Houston and so close to the Gulf you will have to watch for hurricanes which is something students living in Arlington don’t have to worry about. UH cancelled classes for over a week due to Hurricane Harvey last year and some students living in Moody Towers had major flooding in their building.
*UH is a couple thousands more expensive which can cut into your “party” budget… A major selling point for UTA has always been low cost compared to other big schools … more money for partying and having fun lol

Hope this helps

Houston has a more lively campus. It has a strong football program with a lot of school spirit. UTA is really an oversized commuter school with no school spirit. They have no football team. They have a basketball team, and it’s not very good.
