Hi guys,
I am an international student from India. I applied for Fall 2016 BS in Computer Science and I got accepted in the following Universities.
TOEFL- 86/120
ACT - 26/36
ACT Writing - 25/36
GPA - 3.7/4.0
Colleges.
San Jose State Univ. - Accepted
Cal Poly Pomona - Accepted
SUNY Buffalo - Accepted with 7500$ Scholarship
Cal State Sacrament - Accepted
Cal State Dominguez Hills - Accepted
Univ. Of Texas Arlington - Accepted with 6000$ + In-state tuition rate
( At UT Arlington I only have to pay 4000$ per year for tuition.)
I want to go to UT Arlington. Is BS Computer Science program good there?
Is Arlington city safe to live?
If anyone planning to go to UT Arlington for Fall 2016 please contact me.
Why do you want to go to UT Arlington? Is money tight?
The best choice for you is SJSU - it’s a top school for CS, with recruiting from Silicon Valley. If you can afford it, it’s your best choice.
UT Arlington is an okay university. Its recruitment is mostly local. The city is actually a generic suburb of Dallas-Fort Worth. Pretty conservative area. Not easy to navigate without a car (not pedestrian/bike-friendly). Weather is good.

My first choice was SJSU too. plus my brother lives in SJSU. but I have to spend 17K $ per year in SJSU and If I go to UT Arlington then I can finish my 4 year eduacation in 17K $( Only tuition ). Is it worth spending 17$ per year only for tuition in SJSU?
Does your family have the money ? Then yes it’s worth it, the program ‘s quality simply isnt’ comparable.
If money is an issue, UT Arlington is a solution but I don’t think it’s really good.
UT Arlington is a good school. Arlington is like any other town…some parts of it are safe and good and some parts are not. There is a strong international community at UTA and you will find lots of support. It is kind of a commuter school for students who live n the DFW area. You WILL need a car. I think you are wise to choose a school based on affordability.
check out the payscale comparisons for ROI. you’ll have to eyeball ‘in-state’ vs ‘oos’ based on your actual expected costs to make sure you’re comparing apples to apples. but comparing school to school should be easy. of course the cost of living is much higher in San Jose than Arlington TX, so factor that into your comparison.
SJSU is #84 on the list with a 20-yr ROI of 540K.
UTA is #130 with ROI of 430K and a lower cost.
You can do the math. They may both be local schools, I’m only familiar with UTA - definitely a commuter school, but it’s a decent school.
