UT Austin 2011/12 Transfer Guide

Accepted to Cockrell School of Engineering for EE!

Very excited right now.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

Accepted to COLA!!

GPA: 3.51
College: University of Arkansas
Hours: 45 (57 at end of year)
SAT: 1640
Average resume and essays
No letters of recommendation

I’m Hispanic and I’m a Texas Resident.

I too have in progress hours and applied to engineering. I’m a freshman with only 15 hours to my name until the current term is over.

Calculus III (A) - Fall semester “indicator course”
Linear Algebra & Matrix Theory (In progress)
General Chemistry I (In progress)
Engineering Physics I & Lab (In progress)
Environmental Science I (In progress)

Provided I pass my finals I will end the semester with about 30 semester hours and 10 AP hours with a 3.9 GPA. I have also registered for Differential Equations I and Engineering Physics II & Lab for the summer term at the same institution I am at now, as I know UT likes you to complete sequences of courses at the same school. I am hoping my in-progress status doesn’t hurt my chances of admission, and I applied to Architectural Engineering (allegedly the most competitive program, which perhaps was a bad decision in hindsight) as my first choice and School of Undergraduate Studies - Undeclared as my second.

GrimFandango23 post up ur stats.

OMG, i just got in electrical engineering.

Good luck guys, i feel so relieved. See y’all at Austin. ;)

hey muhammadbuk congrats man. can u mention ur cal and phys grades?
just for comparison…i got A’s in all calculus and B’s in both phys? lol i know im being paranoid.

I’m in! Second choice, Electrical engineering. Didn’t get into BME but no worries.

GPA: 3.75 (utilized the academic fresh start)
Transferred from a CC.

One letter of rec from my calc professor
Hmmmm, I think that’s it.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU! THANKS TO CC, it’s great sharing with people on the same journey.

dammnnn ittt im still waiting to hear back about bme!

bme first choice

biology 2nd

@locness me too man…petr engr first choice COLA undeclared second. i applied in late jan. i guess that didn’t help.

Man I should have submitted a letter of recommendation since everyone that got accepted so far seem to have one.

i’ve submitted 2 sexy ones…still waiting lol

anyways im gonna bounce guys…good luck bobby n locness…i think they’ve sent out what they could for today…im sure they’ll complete this round by friday…so we have the rest of the week at our disposal…

oh and btw i think they’ve made their decision today because my dashboard before today used to mention calculus readiness and how that’d affect my admission timing and suddently this morning it disappeared. i think they do that to avoid a flood of phone calls to the admission offices…spreading out the news might help ease their burden…

@ Rall

I still have that calculus readiness there

agreement with Rall, the Calculus readiness notice is no longer the header on my admission page. I currently take Calc II at a community college. A’s in Calc I, Pre-calc, and college algebra. Hope they will see a positive academic trend with my math. Anyway, I hope they have decided to go ahead and make the decision now! My first choice major is Architectural Engineering, second choice is Undergraduate Studies. I’ve only seen one post about architectural engineering, and I’m hoping that is a good sign. If anyone else is looking at architectural engineering, please post up on this thread. It would be cool to hear from other AE students.

still waiting on CNS :/

@Padrino

I also applied to Architectural Engineering and Undeclared, but I may fax them to change my application majors. I felt like I was a solid applicant (stats above) but even don’t feel confident about getting in since Architectural is supposedly so competitive. I may change my majors to Petroleum and Mechanical, respectively. Let us know if you get in!

If architecture and engineering is your passion, then stick with the Architectural Engineering at UTexas. It is one of only 16 accredited (ABET) schools, I believe. Switching majors this late in April to two other selective engineering programs, may not be the best choice, in my opinion. Having Undeclared as a 2nd choice is to allow for an internal transfer after my first year. From what I was told from an admissions counselor, the essays are important and they approach each application holistically. They’ll know who really wants to go to the University of Texas at Austin.

Perhaps that isn’t the best idea. I’m not sure if I want to mess around with an internal transfer though. That’s another year wasted. I feel like the people with 30+ hours have an advantage over those of us with less, even though I do have Calc III done which should satisfy the “readiness requirement”, I think those with more hours get a better chance.
