My stats:
3.89 GPA from #140 nationally ranked school 29 hours
Honors student & student athlete
21 hours from ACC dual credit courses 3.7 GPA
Tons of anything else you need
To be completely honest I am just pretty depressed after this. Don’t really get how I was denied, as I’m sure a lot of you guys feel.

I am going to appeal and I’ll keep the forum posted on how it goes. If anyone had any information on the appeal process I would love to hear it. You can direct message me or send me your number and we can talk.

After going through the like 5 million posts I missed while I was at work this afternoon, my heart is breaking for you guys (ESPECIALLY you gov applicants). It’s really not fair that you guys did so much AMAZING work only for it to amount to what seems like nothing. I feel this especially, as many of you had stats that were WAY better than mine - honestly it feels like my acceptance was a total fluke, even more so after reading all of your decisions. I sincerely hope that you guys get everything you want out of life, and that you get into an equally amazing school in future. Best of luck to all of you guys

Just got rejected this morning from COLA (English major planning to participate in the teaching program)
4.0 GPA as an incoming sophomore from UH
2 good, passionate essays
2 LORS (one from my senior AP Lit teacher and one from a college professor who I took a literary class with - meant for English majors; so I thought my LORs were pretty strong)
My ECs were probably nothing special but I did list a couple, lots of writing/English stuff in high school and working with kids in college

I really just don’t understand why I got rejected, especially because I didn’t think COLA was that competitive, especially for an English major. Does anybody have any insight on this? I took 2 dual credit classes in high school and got B’s in those but I don’t think that would really affect much?

Denied from McCombs today, just finished sophomore year of college last spring and I have 63 hours.

  • 4.0 across all courses and dual credits
  • Internship the summer after my freshman year at a chemical plant where I was working daily in SAP (40hr/wk)
  • Mentored a student for the past 2 years at an area elementary school through a mentorship organization I helped found
  • Average or above average essays
  • 3 letters of rec

I’m really not sure why I was denied or what I could have made more appealing, I’m sure many denials had something to do with affirmative action and trying to meet certain diversity standards. Pretty shameful and unprofessional on Texas’s part to keep people waiting so long with no updates and to even beyond that miss the deadline all together. So sad when such a great university is defaced by such an underperforming staff. Hopefully something like this makes people angry so they’re motivated to help push for change in the future.

Loving all the kind words towards us rejectees! I was pretty torn up yesterday but am doing better today.
I have relevant internship experience (applied major International Relations/GS) working with recently resettled refugee families and wrote two pretty passionate essays, one focusing largely on what I gained from those relationships.
My LOR were from a professor of mine (UT alum/former UT prof) with extensive research in migration issues and the owners of a small business I now work for after interning for.
I will likely apply again in the spring. Question for you all - is appealing worth it if the issue behind all the rejections is truly lack of room? I just don’t want to have my hope trampled on again. My appeal would focus largely on the fact that I raised my gpa to a 4.0? Not sure that is convincing enough with all the 4.0s that were rejected. e
