UT austin 2017/2018 Transfer Thread

I am applying as a transfer for Spring 2019. I will have 54 hours of this semester. I have a 3.76 and am trying to apply for the Liberal Arts School as a gov major. My essays are really good! Do I have a chance?

@boo223 it honestly just depends on how much room they have. I applied COLA government major for fall 2018 with a 3.95 GPA and was denied. I appealed with my spring transcript with a 4.0 and they accepted me. They said they had too many freshman accept and there wasn’t enough room for transfer students.

Do I have a chance?

I’ll be applying to Moody for the public relations program for fall 2019. I will have 3 LORs (English professor, previous PR employer who is a UT alumn, and one from Deeds not words nonprofit by Wendy Davis) I have a 4.0 gpa with 9 honor credits. I have a lot of PR experience actual positions and internships in Los Ɓngeles. I have participated in 2 school EC and 5 EC within the city. I am a Texas resident. I currently have 34 credit hours. My essays will be strong and personal.

Ep2895. You have a great chance.

Did you have calculus at the time when you applied? Cause I applied while taking calculus, so it’s on my transcript but says in progress. Would you think I still have a chance? I’ve finished bio 1/2 and chem 1/2 and I got straight A’s.

Did you have calculus when you applied?

Did you have Calculus when you applied?

would you mind sharing your stats? cause I applied for CNS without Cal 1 but I have a 4.0 GPA.

What would be the lowest gpa likely to get into UT COLA for spring? I have three letters of rec, 3 essays, 45 high school dual credit, and taking 16 hours currently at UTA. I currently have A’s in all classes but 2 with Bs

I have talked to a few advisors here and there but am still confused about how the majors work. If we don’t get our first choice major are we denied from the school overall and have no chance of attending or do we get our second choice? Many people have said its only first or none but reading through this thread it seems people were still able to enroll under their second major. I want to apply to McCombs but I know my chances are low, so I’m going to do economics instead however if its possible for me to at least take a shot at McCombs and then do economics if I get denied…

Also, does UT average GPA from pervious college coursework? I took dual enrollment in high school so will they take that GPA and average it with the GPA I’ll have at the current school I attend??

Thanks

@jjpickle hey what happened with nursing? Did you end up getting denied or did you switch your major ?? i am also interested in going for nursing at UT and i also got capped!

you guys should start a new thread for 2018/2019 admissions

@Zeoxys There actually is a spring 2019 transfer thread.

What’s up peeps? I’ve posted in other threads, but I’d also appreciate any input you guys might have.

I see a plethora of people applying with less than 40 hours. In fact, it seems as though that’s the norm, and most of these people tend to have a 3.6 or higher. I’m assuming those with the fewest university hours need to have as high gpa as possible. Then there’s the issue of how competitive the major is the applicant is applying to. Just my observations.

Heres my dilemma: I have a university degree already w/minor. Jewish Studies/Minor Hebrew. I’m applying for Spring 2019 currently. I have 4 brilliant LOR’S, decent/good resume. I’m a non traditional student. I graduated with my degree in 2005. I transferred into my degree granting institution. My last 63 hours were a (4.0 gpa accumulative), was on the Presidents honour role each and every semester. Since graduation I took 6 hours at Loyola-Chicago 4.0 gpa.

Side bar: I transferred to my degree granting university from Saint Louis University. 3.49 gpa.

I had one bad semester over 18 years ago. I had a death in my family and withdrew wrongly. Needless to say that awful semester has me scared about this process! I discussed briefly why this semesters grades occurred in a separate document I submitted through the mystatus upload. I hope this will suffice as far as explaining how a student like me did abysmal for that one semester. If this awful semester didn’t exist my overall gpa would be a 3.7.

I’ve read UT Austin wants to see upward progress as far as gpa is concerned. I believe I’ve done that…but I’m still anxiety ridden about this process, especially after reading all the posts on this site and reddit. Anyway…what do you lot reckon? Do you think UT will give me a chance? I guess I should mention I’m attempting to go to medical school. I’m an AML Leukeamia survivor. I’ve been in remission since 2013. My fiance and I moved to Austin in order for me to do my medical school prereqs. Needless to say I’m all in! I desperately want to get these courses sorted at UT-AUSTIN.

Any advice or opinions will be massively appreciated. Cheers lads?!

Has anyone heard back? Any new updates on the portal?

I just got accepted to COLA as a transfer from Texas State

@emmasilverman0914 Do you mind sharing what your GPA was?

UPDATE:

I was previously denied last Friday. 3.86, excellent resume, LOR, essays, worked as ff/medic for 10 years, etc. Major: Health and Society (I’m pre-med). Not gonna lie, I was a bit surprised I got rejected so early in the process. I felt like my chances were iffy, maybe 50/50 if I was lucky. But, to be rejected so early in the process was a surprise.

As it turns out, there was an issue with my Academic fresh start paperwork. I had a 3.0 GPA with a single bad semester over 10 years ago. Without that semester my GPA jumps up tremendously. 3.0 must be a lower limit cutoff in their system.

I am back in the process and my IDE is now showing up. Before, it hadn’t updated. There’s gotta be something to that.

I’m still crossing my fingers. We’ll see! As for appeals go, they are basically useless if you don’t have some sort of major error with your application or some sort of new information.

I’ll let you all know what happens…

Did you get in?
