on the bright side june 15th is less than 2 months away and if i get into UT i dont have to look for housing since i live in austin :smiley:

but if i dont get into mcCombs i have to start looking for housing in college station :frowning:

Does UT use a points system? How do they judge applicants?

@impossiblethings Yes and no. In the past they did by giving them a number of 1-6. You got a academics score, and a personal achievement score (not the exact wording but you get the jist). However, I have heard rumors that they completely ditched that system. So to be honest, I have no real idea, but the one I just listed is what they have used in the past.

@Zeoxys need a roomie? lol

sorry posted the same message from above twice

When the admission committee says “expect to hear around late May to early June”, are they saying the first cycle comes out in late May at the earliest? Or are there gonna be some decisions coming out in the first two weeks of May? Lemme know if any of you heard details on that plz

Guys I need your help especially the cs majors of this thread which would you rather choose a research intern position at rice (but its biotechnology and my interest is kinda meh for that) or team lead at a small startup that is coming to my city (they have not launched yet were still in prep stages). These are both just summer things, the startup position is not as glamorous and does not have the name of rice behind it. My overall goal is to land a top internship after my first year at UT. So which would you guys choose and why ?

(sorry not biotech but just biology)

I am asking all of y’all because were all in the same boat lol, we all exist in that weird space where we will have access to all of UT’s talent network (hopefully) but we wont have that many credits at the college itself so we are all upperclassmen but almost like a freshmen at UT :).

having a internship related to your field will help you in future work endeavors, but the rice research position will look good on paper if you are applying to anything related to academia. So its more of a Future Work vs Academics, both are good, pick the one you feel right with.

MyStatus appears to be down again.

Back up?

@Chipaton I decided I am not probably going into academia. Either finance/data science or software engineering I will probably go into.

@cleanshoes my bad lol wrong person
