UT austin 2017/2018 Transfer Thread

I agree @Thompson2688. I have gotten out of line. I do apologize for my rude comments, and I will publicly and privately message those I was offensive to. I feel frustrated by the mentality that the university is behind or that the university owes us an explanation. It TOTALLY sucks that decisions are not coming out in the way they have in the past. TOTALLY BLOWS!

However, I stand by what I have said about the university not owing anyone anything and that is naive to think that UT is behind. Yes, they are not releasing admission decisions as they have in the past, but their website says June 15th. I guess I blew up because I wanted people to acknowledge that fact.

It is total crap that everyone is hearing different things. A university as large as it is, you’d think they’d have some dates posted internally for their staff or something, but I digress to saying that the website states by June 15th.

To anyone who I was mean to, I sincerely apologize. As frustrating as this situation is, we shouldn’t take it out on another, and I apologize for starting an uproar. @lilliebeck I was completely out of line with my comment, and I am very sorry. I would be so upset if a dean of any department told me one thing and it didn’t work out. I’m so sorry you haven’t heard back yet. I’m anxious as well.

I’ll go back through my comments and try and identify anyone else who I may have been rude to inappropriately. Even if I disagree, there are better ways of handling things, and I could always message someone privately instead of posting on the board.

I don’t expect anyone to be my biggest fan moving forward and that’s okay. I wish everyone a lot of luck and hope that we do hear back sooner rather than later.

I can’t see my posts to apologize to anyone else. So I will say I am sorry to anyone who I was rude to. I wish I could apologize personally.

Anyway
pretty exciting that that one guy got his decision yesterday. Could be a sign

@kingsirry What school did he apply to? I am going to try and look for his comment.

Engineering

@kingsirry :))

Hopefully! One can only dream though. WAIT, I just came up with an idea. What if, now hear me out, they’ll be releasing decisions tomorrow??? (I know all of our predictions have fallen face first but hey, ya never know)

Ehh I mean it’s not crazy. Assuming that guy was telling the truth it could happen. Also, end of this week is sort of the beginning of may which is what some people on the phone had said:

Everyone on forum puts on tinfoil conspiracy hat

I am also applying to the Johns Hopkins as a transfer. We find out as early as next week.

@Thompson2688 A trained monkey could get a 4.0 at a CC because there is no such thing as a ‘rigorous’ CC class. Where you come from matters, but this is the beauty of free will. We can all believe whatever we want.

@kgallagher I believe @Thompson2688 is correct at least in the fact that UT looks pretty much just at GPA rather than the school you attended. Hopefully, they take into consideration the school and rigor of courses regardless of community, online, IVY, etc. It might should be considered but it’s not always. Also, depending on the community college and professor could easily be as rigorous. Many UT professors also work for Austin Community college and don’t differ their curriculum from each school. Of course, this may be an exception, but I think there are exceptions in any case.

Just out of curiosity why have you decided to transfer to UT?

@kgallagher Well monkeys are pretty smart compared to the rest of biological life on Earth so I guess you got me there. And if you have good enough connections even a trained monkey can get into an Ivy league school (if you’ve ever seen the show Futurama then you’ll understand my reference).

To be fair, the website does say that in transfer applicants, they look for

This isn’t to say that community colleges are not challenging institutions, but it would seem odd to put this on their website and then consider every single college the same. What would be considered a non-challenging insitution? Just my 2 cents

@awesomesaucee Hmm that is odd. I know community college is a lot more affordable than 4 year universities (just to give some context, I applied to a bunch of colleges last year for freshman admission, got in, but they were to expensive so I decided to stay and go to Collin college, my local community college) so maybe that’s why they put them in the same boat as other colleges.

@kgallagher Did you attend a community college? You seem to have extensive knowledge of the coursework and material that their students learn. If you did attend a CC, you must have taken every single course available with every single possible professor in order to come to the conclusion that “there is no such thing as a ‘rigorous’ CC class.” I am sure, as an intellectual, you know that every professor teaches and grades differently.

I would be entertained if someone could allow me to meet a trained monkey that could compete my with 4.0 GPA.

@Thompson2688 Yep, CC is definitely the cheaper option (and better option in most cases) and I don’t think applicants from CCs should be penalized over those who went to 4-year schools. I just wanted to bring to light some new information because there seems to be lots of conflicting info.

Personally, I find it really hard to believe that an admissions officer could look at a 3.95 transcript from A&M and a 4.0 from a community college and decide to admit the latter and reject the former. Even if they were told to not give any points to one school over another, I feel like their would still be some unconscious bias at play that would still have them leaning towards the 3.95 at an acclaimed institution.

However, I could see it working if they took everyones transcripts and plugged them all into a computer without noting the school, and admissions officers only say GPA, classes, and ECS + Essays. This might be the case, but we can only speculate, so there is no point in worrying about it

@awesomesaucee Thanks for the research and comments! It would be interesting to actually know the process. Holistic is so open ended and it feels like it’s not actually holistic to a degree. Ah well, you’re right in not worrying about it! The deadline to apply has passed and we hopefully all did our best!

@kgallagher ?? I’ve gone to CC for the past two years and a lot of my professors teach/have taught at UT or have degrees from UT. Not everybody has the money to go to a university right away and CC is a wonderful resource to get the basics done. I love the small classes and accessible professors and I would stay here is they offered bachelor degrees. Nobody should ever be ashamed of going to CC.

Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking around here for a while. I just checked my status and I’m happy to say I was accepted!!!

@schelenzer YAY! Big congrats to you! What school? COFA, CNS
