@utarts I really like UTSA! The classes are fairly easy and the professors I’ve had are awesome for the most part. Not the best in school ranking in comparison to others in Texas though - defintely depends on the degree. I’m from SA so I just want to get out and experience more, but I love San Antonio!
I’m from SA too! I’m planning on going to Utsa if I don’t get accepted but I’m on the same boat as you haha.
@cman1234 Were you in UT’s CAP program? I know for cola its automatic admittance if you have above a 3.2 after one year, but I’m not so sure about CNS.
I’m pretty sure the CAP program is only 1 year
@lilliebeck It is, I accidentally put two instead of one, (I edited it out)
I just wanted to throw in that it certainly matters what school your transferring from. A community college is not on the same academic planet as an ivy league school.
@kgallagher No they are considered the same. All that matters is the GPA and the difficulty of the classes taken. An A in calculus at a community college is the same as an A in calculus from Rice. I’m not trying to sound rude, and if it comes off this way I’m really sorry, but people on this forum have said this numerous times.
Admissions told me the exact same thing
Comparing a CC to an Ivy league school is like comparing a high school football to the New England Patriots. I transferred to an Ivy from a CC and have spoken with admissions folks about this. Believe whatever you’d like though.
@Thompson2688 I was not a CAP student
@kgallagher UT is different though. I’ve talked to a couple of advisers from UT and they’ve all said the same thing, it does not matter where you are transferring from, only the academic rigor of your classes. Someone might be transferring from an Ivy league with underwater basket-weaving, but that won’t make a difference since their classes weren’t rigorous. If someone is transferring from an Ivy League, yes they will stand out. But if they have a C in Calc, or have taken only electives, then it doesn’t really matter at that point. UT admissions doesn’t care if you went to Harvard, Yale, or Brown. They only care about the GPA and the difficulty of the classes. It should not be a crutch or an excuse used by someone with a sub-par GPA from Harvard to complain about not getting into UT. Somehow they got into an Ivy League, and if they got into an Ivy League and do poorly, then why would another school let them transfer in just because they were Ivy.
Again, I don’t mean to be rude and I’m sorry if it comes off that way, it’s just UT has a very different admissions process than most schools.
@cman1234 Did you apply to UT as a freshman before?
For the people considering UTSA, it is a great school but if one of the things that draws you to UT is its atmosphere, I would recommend to not expect the same from UTSA. It is largely a commuter school so the campus life isn’t as bustling as UT’s. There’s definitely efforts to change that, but I don’t see UTSA’s commuter school status changing much within the next couple of years. Fingers crossed that you all get into UT though
Is anyone planning on attending the UT Dallas transfer orientation in case they don’t get good news from UT? I am going to the May orientation since I don’t want to risk not getting admitted and being stuck with bad professors at UT Dallas.
No, I am not going to withdraw my application from UT Austin, they are still my number one. I am just taking steps in an emergency case. Don’t let anyone tell you to withdraw your application to UT Austin, you can always drop from the university which you are registering for if that comes to be an option.
RT @hookmepls
@stoppingtheworld when is the deadline for the May orientation?
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please quit the bickering. I deleted several posts.
@Thompson2688 I did not
@MaineLonghorn Thank you
@cman1234 Ok gotcha. Just wondering because some people apply both to UT and a feeder school so I was just wantin to know.
