1/25/21 - same here. My senior daughter would follow in her two sisters’ footsteps if she were admitted to UT but I really don’t think UT considers legacies as much as they may have in the past. We’re not big donors.
It is not “luck of the draw.” A lot goes into application reviews. The process is incredibly complicated. No one knows what the rest of a low stat admission candidate’s application looks like. For all we know they may have had incredible essays, rec letters, etc… that completely outweighed a low test score for their major. I’m not very optimistic about my daughter’s admission to UT. She’s picked an incredibly competitive major and there are other kids from her school that have applied that are better candidates. There’s a lot that goes into the selection but I know it’s hard to see that when all we see are acceptances or rejections. Stay strong. There’s a school out there for everyone, and it may not be UT. That’s OK. GOOD LUCK!!
^^
Especially for a public school as big as UT, I’d be very surprised if legacy played any role. I’d assume even LOR would take a bigger role than that, since they’re optional material while legacies aren’t even mentioned as a method of admission.
I don’t think UT considers legacy status. Maybe in the case of exceptionally large donors?
I don’t know how UT would even know that my kid is a legacy. When her mom & grandmother attended UT, they went by different last names. We don’t give money to UT. She didn’t mention anything about being a legacy in her application or essays.
Someone said above that “legacies” just want admission over specific majors and want to be part of the Greek scene. Those generalizations don’t apply to my daughter at all.
People will believe what they want to believe. I can’t change that. But it’s kind of insulting to assume that someone got in just because they are a legacy.
I’m surprised too as my senior twins would be 3rd generation and my oldest son is at UT.
I hope they’re not done with non-auto nursing, but I suspect you might be right. Sigh.
perhaps those with low sat or gpa may try to write great essays , but that does not imply that students with great sat and gpa will send rubbish essays , resumes, bad rec letter or will not care of their ecs…this theory is flawed
Anyone waiting for McCombs?
i never said they write rubbish essays. I’m just saying that an application is more than just an SAT/ACT score.
You’re right, they don’t care about legacy. My friend’s cousin didn’t get in and a building was named after her family. There are thousands upon thousands of Texas legacies in the world. They can’t give all of them a spot.
Yes OOS
me too, but im also OO USA lol
has anyone been accepted oos for biology or neuroscience yet? I from nj and have not.
Like someone else said, not saying those people might be rubbish, but there are more parameters and things to be taken into then being a high scorer. Kudos to them for being able to succeed in their schools!
yes, not heard back, OOS. I’m just surprised not that many Mccombs acceptances here even without CBHP. Makes me think some notifications are pending, and this is not a soft no.
@wefas2020 Yes, daughter was accepted in December. OOS biology major.
My daughter got accepted Dec 10th (I think) computer engineering. She is in state, top 12%, loads of APs, ACT 33, good essay.
Legacy didn’t help with my automatic admit son get his major last year and there were plenty of devastated parents and kids on these boards saying I’m a 4th/5t+ generation longhorn and I’ve been going to games since I was a baby (or taking my kid to campus their whole life) and they were denied their major or outright rejected. I do not think it helps at all unless you truly know someone who can pull strings or donate significantly to school (and even then I’m not sure it’s a guarantee). There are simply too many legacies!
My non-AA daughter is still waiting to hear. Have many non-AA students been accepted into Moody. She is hoping to gain admission into PR.
Still waiting as well. Non AA in COLA . Hopefully good news soon!
