UT Austin major acceptance rates

Was going to apply for bio but decided that it’s too competitive. I’m thinking of either public health (college of natural sciences) or health and society (college of liberal arts) but even though the google acceptance rate is like 29% what are the acceptance rates for those two majors? Is public health more competitive than health and society?

Plus, most med schools dont care what major you are in but im a little bit terrified that if i somehow DONT get into med school, i wouldn’t know what careers there are with public health or health and society majors.
For reference I am in state and not top 5% (not auto admit)

If you do not attend medical school (for any reason) are you open to another type of graduate degree?

Keep in mind that your interests may change over the next few years.

Im looking to go to a CAA or CRNA program

Ok…so if you are not accepted to medical school or you change your mind, you would return to school for one of these career paths…? I don’t know about CAA, but I believe that CRNA programs are very, very competitive and you would need to work as a nurse first.

With all of the majors noted above, you could work as a clinical research coordinator, scribe, etc while taking the prerequisites for nursing school (ABSN).

Have you shadowed MDs or nurses to get a feel for the actual job? I would start there- you need to see if you actually like it.

Time to get cracking. Forget about gaming your acceptance rates on CC and go and do some research on the very wide range of cool careers open to people interested in health care but not becoming physicians.

College of Liberal arts is easier to get into than College of Natural Sciences, for sure. And if you get capped you can only auto transfer into College of Liberal Arts. The overall in-state acceptance rate for UT is 37-38% last year. The most difficult schools have in-state acceptance rates closer to 10 percent. So by default that means that the “easier” to get into schools like College of Liberal Arts have in-state acceptance rates that are likely over 40 percent. Having said that, the health and society major doesn’t include any core pre-med classes so you would presumably need to take those too in order to apply to med school. Good luck to you!
