(UT CAP program) University of Texas at Tyler

Hello there, I’m new to this site, so I really hope this topic is on the right board.
Anyway, I kind of had my heart set on going to the University of Texas at AUSTIN but I was offered CAP and qualified for places such as UT Tyler. I didn’t qualify for places closer to Austin (where I live) such as Dallas, San Antonio, or Arlington, but I did qualify for Tyler. I was really upset that I did not automatically get into UT but there’s no point in me stressing about it any longer, maybe I’ll have to spend a year at UT Tyler till I get 30 hours, at least a 3.25 GPA, and then automatically get accepted into UT Austin (those are the requirements).
But the point of this thread–Does anyone know what UT Tyler is like? Has anyone did CAP over there? I hope this doesn’t sound too shallow/ignorant but what are the people like at the school or at Tyler in general? Is there a lot to do in the city of Tyler?
And also, does anyone think it is worth doing CAP for UT ESPECIALLY if I have to do it all the way in Tyler, Texas–or should I just go to another college and maybe transfer to UT on my own…???

Thank you for listening! Please let me know what UT Tyler is like and if it is worth it. I would really appreciate it.

Hi,

I live in Texas and was CAPed also. However, I was under the impression that you could pick any system school you wanted. If I were to go for the CAP program, I would go to San Antonio. There’s no way UT could force me to live in Tyler, TX for a year. Check and make sure you can’t go to UTSA for CAP b/c I’m pretty sure UT lets you choose which school you want to do CAP at.

They let you choose, so long as you meet the minimum requirements for that school.

Yeah, I fit the requirements for tyler,
bump?

Actually after applying to UT they will offer a CAP program at specific schools. The requirements are different than general admission requirements. I was offerred CAP at UT Tyler, and several others but not offered UT San Antonio. The Admissions at UT San Antonio told me only students in top 50% of their class would be offered CAP at UT San Antonio. I went ahead and applied directly to UT San Antonio and was granted admission(but not on the CAP program). I decided to accept the CAP at UT Tyler, ya it’s Tyler but only 2 semesters and then on to Austin! I’m sure it will be fun if I embrace my time there! Anyone else doing CAP at Tyler??

Can you explain what you just said. I have to meet the requirements for UTSA or UT? Help me… my time has come!!

so you’re telling me if im top 50% i should get into UTSA? Because im top 40% with a act score of 25… will i get in?
